Side Effects for Enbrel (etanercept)

ENBREL (ETANERCEPT): This medication is used alone or in combination with an immunosuppressant (such as methotrexate) to treat certain types of arthritis (such as rheumatoid, psoriatic, juvenile idiopathic, and ankylosing spondylitis). Some brands of this medication are also used to treat a skin condition called psoriasis. These conditions are caused by an overactive immune system (autoimmune disease). The immune system attacks the body's own healthy cells, causing inflammation in the joints and skin. Etanercept controls your body's defensive response by blocking the action of a certain natural substance (TNF) that is used by the immune system. Treatment decreases redness, itching and scaly patches in psoriasis as well as the pain, swelling and stiffness of joints in arthritis. This medication can stop the progression of disease and joint damage, resulting in improved daily functioning and quality of life. This medication treats but does not cure autoimmune diseases. Symptoms usually return within 1 month of stopping the medication. (Sources: U.S. Centers for Medicare Services, FDA)

Started taking Aviane 2 days after my menstrual cycle had ended. I took it for 5 days and am extremely bloated and experiencing the WORST vaginal bleeding I've ever had. It started out as light spotting and now it's horrible and so is the cramping that came along with it. I've stopped taking it and wouldn't recommend this pill to anyone.

withdrawl symptoms - sweating, shaking

It does help but I am addicted to it.

Hair loss, weight gain (30 lbs in two years), mood swings, his and lows, loss in desire with life itself. Absolutely no sexual desire at all. When I weaned my self off like the doctor told me how I cried and yelled at the drop of a hat. It is so hard to come off this drug. DON'T DO IT!

Dry mouth, leg pain, sleepiness (all minor, not a problem)

Mild, not unpleasant hot flashes. Significant weight gain.

Muscle spasms in stomach, legs, chest. Heart palpitations.
