Lotemax (loteprednol etabonate) Side Effects, Uses Dosages

Side Effects for Lotemax (loteprednol etabonate)

after cataract surgery complication; eye swelling

The day after starting the eye drops, felt dizzy and could not see well. This could be from the surgery itself but I am sensitive to medications and this med is a steriod.

I was prescribed this a week after surgery. I only could read the top line of the eye chart at that time, surgery was supposed to be for a lens that allows near and far vision, but my vision was much worse in the one eye after the surgery. I read that this med is usually taken the same day as surgery. Stopped taking the eye drop after 3 days. A week after feel much better and the eye is improving but still not better than before the cataract surgery. Will wait before deciding to do the other eye.

I was given this for dry eye. It helped slightly but I still need to take something 5 or more days a week, so I'll just take the OTC products. I did not have any side effects.

Headache. Feeling like something in eyes. Burning pain

Feel agitated. I have not been able to tolerate the 4x/day prescribed. I will taper down early after just 2 days of 3x/day. On this last dose, I didn’t follow (after 15 minutes) with lubricant to flush out because it Did help with dryness.

Has somewhat affected my singing voice with some hoarseness if speaking voice. In past, I had vocal fold paresis for a year before finding it was due to inhaled corticosteroid; guess This med may cause the same.

Opthalmologist prescribed Lotemax to treat dry eyes which are side effect of epithelial basement membrane dystrophy. After a few days I started experiencing sore throat and hoarse voice. Did not connect it to the eye drops. Thought it was an allergy or maybe a lingering virus. Only after accidentally missing a few doses and starting again did I realize it was the Lotemax. Stopped taking it and sore throat and hoarseness stopped immediately. Doc said he never heard of that side effect.

Side effect was completely reversible and not fatal but be warned that eye drops can have serious side effects.

The first day I took this drug I was so excited because of the energy I felt. The next morning when I woke, took my medication with no reaction. Up the dosage and had the same result. Great energy the first day, then no increase in energy. The positive side though was how I had more clarity in my thinking. Even though I didn't have energy back I was willing to stay on the drug to keep the fog out of my brain. I was hopeful the side effects would eventually go away. Instead they got worse. I stopped taking the drug two days ago and I am really glad. It's nice not to wake up with a headache after clinching my teeth all night. Good luck to those who are having success and happy hunting to those of us that are still searching.

I will take Prilosec every other day to hopefully stop my itching. Any other ideas would be appreciated from others that had/have this problem.

Acid reflux, indigestion, heartburn

My periods do not start on the 'placebo' week (it starts monday I start sat) I use to have heavy bleeding for 2-3 days, now I have medium to heavy bleeding 7-8 days. Cramps and headaches still occur week prior to period. Breast have gone from large C to small DD. Possible weight gain from this.Worse symptom I have which just recently started -after about 11 months on it- is I am gagging all the time, and not as a reaction to something I could just be walking through my house and then I will gag and cough and nearly throw up. And oh if I am to smell something or think of a food which may make me feel sick I am ready to throw up in a quick second.

I would rather have a some difficulty breathing over feeling like this again!!!

I have been off of this POISON for a week now and am STILL suffering the side effects. If anything, they are going away in tiny amounts each day. This drug is a steroid and can build up in your system. If you take an asthma inhaler, you are getting a "double dose" of the steroids. The side effects will creep up on you and then BAM! After being off of it for a week I am now experiencing tingling on my left side in my hand, foot and left side of my face and I don't know why. Praying that this all goes away soon. I would have rather suffered with all of the allergy symptoms then go through this hell.

Constipation, severe sinus congestion, swelling of feet, knees and hands, water retention, confusion, brain fog, dry skin, hair loss and change in hair texture, dry eyes, anxiety, depression

Stop taking this medicine if you feel symptoms. And doctor shd take the responsibility to let you know the side effects.

Doctor gave it without my consent .
