EVISTA (RALOXIFENE HYDROCHLORIDE): Raloxifene is used by women to prevent and treat bone loss (osteoporosis) after menopause. It slows down bone loss and helps to keep bones strong, making them less likely to break. Raloxifene may also lower the chance of getting a certain type of breast cancer (invasive breast cancer) after menopause. Raloxifene is not an estrogen hormone, but it acts like estrogen in some parts of the body, like your bones. In other parts of the body (uterus and breasts), raloxifene acts like an estrogen blocker. It does not relieve menopause symptoms such as hot flashes. Raloxifene belongs to a class of drugs known as selective estrogen receptor modulators-SERMs. This medication should not be used before menopause. It should not be used to prevent heart disease. Horrendous eye pain by the second pill. By the third pill my right ankle felt like it was crushed and broken. I've had 5 limping episodes and one crushed wrist episode within the first week alone! It is one month and I am still suffering with pains that move from place to place all over my body. Some mental disorders, such as confusion, depression, detachment and insomnia with extreme fatigue. Many unnatural feelings, such as believing a cool liquid was running down my leg under my skin. My whole system seems to be racing, at times, and feels hotter inside. My body temperature has changed and my blood pressure went up. Pains in my tendons will range from 2-9 and are present every single day.
The side effects were frightening to my mother who thought she was losing her mind. Her breathing was shallow and her hands and arms had tremors and involuntary repetitive motion. Easily could have confused this behavior with a stroke.
DO NOT STOP TAKING without first talking to your doctor. HORRIBLE HORRIBLE side effects when you stop taking it suddenly.
my daughter (14) suffered from absence seizures for many years, 5 to 10 times hourly, awake and asleep. The first neuro she went to prescribed Lamictal, which I later found out is not usually the first line of defense for this type of seizure. After reading up on it, we decided to just deal with the seizures! Then went to another neuro, who told us that Zarontin (ethosuximide) is generally what is prescribed for absence. I went home, did my research, and decided to give it a try. It has been an answer to prayer for our family! She has been seizure free since the first week with minimal side effects. A little sleepy sometimes and some hiccups the first few weeks. And she did not have to go up to the 500 mg 2x daily that is usually done. We continue to pray..... :) I should add that I was terrified of the chemical side effects and we as a family, very rarely take any prescriptions at all. Hope this blesses someone and helps them with their decisions!
I don't recall experiencing any side effects. I did have a bit of cramping but no bleeding at first, but no other visible side effects.

I hate this bc. I'm going to ask to be switched to another kind ASAP. ID RATHER NOT HAVE A PERIOD AT ALL THAN HAVE ONE EVERY DAY WITH ALL THESE HORRIBLE SIDE EFFECTS. IM NOT ABOUT TO BEIN PAIN AND ALWAYS BLEEDING ON MYSELF.
I have blurred vision sometimes, dry mouth, and hair loss.

Felt better within 5 hours, but having difficulty sleeping so now feeling bad again. Intense gas pains (took gas pills which helped immediately). After reading all the reviews I will stop taking the pills because see that those with nerve problems shouldn't be using this medication. I have early onset of fibromyalgia so probably shouldn't have been perscribed these meds.
