Side Effects for Estraderm (estradiol)

Hot flashes, night sweats, nausea, body aches, back ache, vivid nightmares, restless sleep, anxiety.

Good God. I'm going to try and stick with this medication but it's been really rough even with just 3 days. I'm writing this at 3 am because I can't sleep with the side effects.

menopausal symptoms - hot flashes

Patch fell off after shower - had to apply new patch- re-read the instructions and held pressure for 10 seconds to patch and have since not had this problem.

Menopause/Perimenopause! Each woman responds very differently to the fluctuating hormone levels seen during perimenopause or to the waning levels of estrogen during menopause. With the release of the 2002 Womans Health Initiative study (WHI), there was a panic amongst the medical community and every perimenopausal/menopausal woman on HT. In 2010, the North American Menopause Society released their statement - which in essence says that a woman has to understand the risks and benefits of HT. The ELITE (ELITE: Early Versus Late Intervention Trial With Estradiol) at USC Keck School of Medicine is still underway. My understanding at this time, is that perimenopausal/menopausal women who have symptoms that interfere with quality of life should discuss the risks and benefits of HT with their provider. I had this discussion with my doctor and I decided to go on estrogen therapy (ET) at the very lowest dosage that controls my symptoms (I have had a hysterectomy so I do not have to take progesterone to protect the uterus from exposure to estrogens). I am on the lowest dose (0.0225) Climara patch (estradiol) which I started on about a month ago. My doctor said it would take about 72 hours to know whether I was on a sufficient dose, but the very day I started using the patch, I had my first good night's sleep in a very long time. I love the once a week estradiol patch! It works! Visit The North American Menopause Society (NAMS) at: www.NAMS.org

sometimes a little skin irritation at site of patch. Gooey residue.

Must change patch every 2 days. After 2 days, patch is totally dry. But while it is full, works GREAT! Much better than pills, without the liver involvement that I got with Premarin.

ESTRADERM (ESTRADIOL): This medication is a female hormone (estrogen). It is used by women to help reduce vaginal symptoms of menopause (such as vaginal dryness/burning/itching). These symptoms are caused by the body making less estrogen. When treating only vaginal symptoms of menopause, products applied directly inside the vagina (such as this medication) should be used first. Estrogens that are taken by mouth, absorbed through the skin, or injected may have greater risks of side effects due to more estrogen being absorbed. I had really bad withdrawal effects, than went back to normal dose (150 g) and started taking off 10 grains of drug every day. I had to open it every day and count the grains. No withdrawal effect any more with this method. Sorry for my English

Depression, to increase energy

Dry mouth, itch, constipation,

Did not really have much effect on me. After starting 10 mg dose 2 days in I would have a somewhat persistent diarrhea in the morning. Same applied with increase to 20 mg. Did not have this issue on 40 mg increase, guess my body was used to it by then. Diarrhea was not terrible, expecting to improve in mood helps to bear through it, but I did not feel much change on this medicine. I had less negative thoughts of my past, and that was about it. Still down, not motivated, disinterested in everything, and barely leaving my house.

my cheeks are burning and bright red even when i put lotion on, my skins peeling around my mouth

developed extreme anxiety and fear of heights, totally freaked out while driving and pulled over and called two friends to rescue me. pressure in my head, dizziness, feel like i'm in a cloud, can't think clearly, tightness in my chest, feeling like it's hard to breathe. fear and anxiety while driving now is something i have never had before. i have been on the product for 6 weeks now and stopped taking it yesterday, will comment again on how long it took to recover from side effects.

I get this shot when I get a UTI. The antibiotic pills don't work and really make me sick. I hate getting the shot, it really burns and I am sore for about a day. it helps to walk afterwards. My doctor also gives me a B12 shot in the other butt cheek but that doesn't hurt, just a little pinch. I had about 10 injection in the last 3 yearsand it really helps me. It takes a lot to get me to the doctors because I hate getting shots but I know it will work. I just had one yesterday and my UTI is better already. I just wish it wasn't such a painful shot in my butt!

Sexual dysfunction, Emotional Blunting, Anhedonia

Problems with sleeping patterns, I get estremely sleepy and have to take naps at innapropriate times and have trouble sleeping at night. Have lost my ability to care about many things, including work related duties. Have become more sedentary and do not get excited about things anymore. I call it the "I don't give a crap" pill. On a trip to a conference in Vegas, I left my pills at home and had some horrible side effects; hot flashes, elevated heart rate, depression, extreme fatigue and dizziness. I slept for two straight days and finally had to go to a local doctor and get a prescription. Extremely addictive. I don't know how I will get off of it.

severe anxiety, mild depression
