VASCEPA (ICOSAPENT ETHYL): Icosapent ethyl is a type of omega-3 fatty acid, a fat found in fish oil. It is used along with a proper diet to help lower fats (triglycerides) in the blood. This medication is thought to work by decreasing the amount of triglycerides made by the body. In addition to eating a proper diet (such as a low-cholesterol/low-fat diet), other lifestyle changes that may help this medication work better include exercising, losing weight if overweight, and stopping smoking. After almost 10 years on this medication i began to hear of many serious problems related to it. I worked for an OB/GYN at the time i began this medication. Like most of you i was told by the DR and the pharmacy reps that this drug was safe for long term use. Well, now we know thats not true!!!!! I recently had a bone scan done to only now find out that i have Osteopenia (the begining stages of Osteoporosis). I am only 28 years old. This is what i have to look foward to now as i age. I just wonder did they know these problems before and just failed to say like many other drugs they put on the market or were they just to cheap to do the research! Either way its careless and just pure GREED.

Side effects were worse for the first few days until I learnt how to manage them but were never completely debilitating. I found that taking the medicine just after I started a meal helped, as did staying upright and distracted by something for 30 mins after taking it. I tried a probiotic yoghurt as I was feeling so unwell (usually dubious about these things) and I felt so much better, it sorted out the painfully swollen stomach and to some extent the nausea. I have slept better with my head slightly elevated with one extra pillow (so three in my case). Its not the nicest anti-biotic but its definitely doing the trick on my strep throat.

Toxic drug. I think it broke my mind. I stopped taking it because I was smoking less but still smoking after 4 weeks and within less than a week of stopping I started feeling worse side effects. I have had constant dizziness, headaches, blurry vision, suicidal thoughts, and am a blubbering mess. I am unable to work on a computer due to blurry vision or on the telephone with clients due to unstable emotions. I am taking an extended leave from work because I just cannot perform. I feel like I'm constantly stoned. Please do not take this drug or let anyone you care about take this drug. I feel like I have lost control of my life and am terrified my vision will never clear.

I have hated this pill since I started taking it but pushed through thinking the side effects would get better. I am going to stop or switch because I can't take the panic attacks and effects it has on my heart anymore. Definitely don't recommend!
