Syeda (drospirenone; ethinyl estradiol) Side Effects, Uses Dosages

Side Effects for Syeda (drospirenone; ethinyl estradiol)

Anger, extreme moodiness, wanting to be alone.

SYEDA (DROSPIRENONE; ETHINYL ESTRADIOL): This medication is a combination of 2 hormones: an estrogen (ethinyl estradiol) and a progestin (drospirenone). This product is used to prevent pregnancy. It works mainly by preventing the release of an egg (ovulation) during your menstrual cycle. It also makes vaginal fluid thicker to help prevent sperm from reaching an egg (fertilization) and changes the lining of the uterus (womb) to prevent attachment of a fertilized egg. If a fertilized egg does not attach to the uterus, it passes out of the body. Besides preventing pregnancy, birth control pills may make your periods more regular, decrease blood loss and painful periods, and decrease your risk of ovarian cysts. Using this medication does not protect you or your partner against sexually transmitted diseases (such as HIV, gonorrhea, chlamydia). (Sources: U.S. Centers for Medicare Services, FDA)

Absolutely love it. True, it doesn't agree with a percentage of women, and looks like they've all left a review here. Of course it depends on our individual bodies and hormone balance- but for me, it's been great. I have take it 12-14 days of my cycle for the past three months. I started with 100mg at bedtime and this made me tired and fixed my insomnia. There was some next day sleepiness but that went away in a few days. I found my mood, brain fog and energy were better. Later, I moved to 200 mg. I have to take this in the afternoons because for me it is so energizing. I notice a slight increase in HR with it. But by nighttime sleep is good. Same beneficial effects on mood amd motivation, and it balances the .25 estrogen patch I use. It also decreases my aches and pains. No bloating or sore breasts or weight gain (too much estrogen on its own did that). Still waiting to see if it will eventually help lengthen my cycle back out and decrease heavy periods, but I feel better than I have in years and wish a doctor had given it to me when I first started getting perimenopausal symptoms!

The only thing I've noticed is muscle cramps feet and legs at night.

Shortness of breath lack of energy lack of motivation mild depression feel like day of the living dead bloating weight gain. Itching arms feet my back area etc. and definitely my judgment is impaired at times and blurred vision. Etc.

This drug is the devil, I swear!! Took it to try and even out some depression/mood swings I was having as a result of PTSD, and this drug made me crazy! I was a completely different person while taking this med. I am normally a rational person, and suddenly while on this drug I had doomsday thinking...convinced I wouldn't live thru my depression, sure I would end up hospitalized, etc. It was truly a terrifying 3 days. Stopped the meds and have returned to talk therapy, a much better solution for me. I'm staying far, far away from anything that messes with my brain chemistry!!

The worst metallic-chemical taste in my mouth that I've ever experienced. I couldn't even drink water...I made my husband call Poland Springs the following day after a fresh delivery (the day of the evening that I first took Lunesta) and complain that we got a delivery of bad water! Obviously, I've since realized it was the Lunesta. I also noticed it wasn't very effective. I'll never take it again. Side effects intolerable and it didn't even induce sleep. (For me anyway.)

Rapid weight gain (8 kgs in 2 months), Big bloated stomach and manboobs. Sore/sensitive nipples, difficulty with erection/ejaculation (may be other meds)

Dry mouth, occasional night sweats, occasional slight anxiety but nothing unmanageable

DO NOT TAKE!! Tears up your stomach, still hurting a week later!! Does not help much for pain relief. High blood pressure, heart palpitations, nausea, stomach pain. HORRIBLE DRUG!!!

Meridia RULES. In one month (on 15mg), I've lost almost 20 pounds; most in the first three weeks. I'm not consciously doing anything different -- I just do not think about food in the same way (i.e., obsessively). When I do eat, I feel full a lot faster. Best of all, I don't crave junk food like I used to -- it used to be all I ever wanted to eat. In the last week, I've plateaued a little bit, probably because I'm not trying to eat healthy -- I imagine if I used Meridia in conjunction with Weight Watchers or similar I could maintain the rapid loss I experienced at first for a lot longer. I was worried about taking Meridia at first, considering the reports of adverse side effects, but so far I've experienced none, and I have to believe that being so overweight was bound to put me at more risk than the short time I will take Meridia. PS: I think it bites and is incredibly short-sighted that insurance doesn't cover it, but I also think I probably spent that much on crap food every

Prescribed the lowest dose, Got heart palps within the hour after taking first pill. Racing heart and nausea that day, and headache that evening. It took one day after for the nausea to go away, 2 days for the flushing, and 4 days for the racing heart / palps to go away after taking only one pill.I know this works great for some, but the side effects were terrible for me.
