Skyla (levonorgestrel) Side Effects, Uses Dosages

Side Effects for Skyla (levonorgestrel)

Cramping, needle-like sensation in my uterus almost constantly, weight gain, mood swings, irritability, bloating

Terrible experience. Would not recommend. Looking forward to going back to my other IUD.

Nausea, fatigue, wacky periods,

The insertion was horrible, I was definitely not expecting it to hurt at all by the time it was over I was drenched in sweat and experienced horrible cramping for the next 2 days. For about the first three months I would cramp just about everyday and took so much ibuprofen. I also got so much acne. I noticed my pms symptoms were very different I was very irritable, sometimes sad, sometimes fine but throughout the duration of the year I experienced cramping 24/7, acne and for the last month or two I was very anxious and sad ultimately making my decision to get it removed, removal was painless barely felt a thing. Before the iud my period was about 3-4 days very light no cramps and no mood swings or crazy pms symptoms. I let it play out for about a year but I could tell these changes were caused by the skyla. Prevented pregnancy but I didn't want to deal with the symptoms that came with it anymore. My gyno recommended the ortho cyclin so I will be trying that.

Constant spotting and bleeding, extreme cramping in the night time, random bloating.

Overall would not do again. Getting it inserted wasn't painful but the cramps for the day of and after had me bedridden. I got it removed after 2 months because I would bleed every single day and went through so many tampons. It was basically a 2 month long period. I also never had menstrual cramps until I had Skyla. Bloating would be so bad I looked pregnant even though I clearly was not.

Pain, fatigue, nausea, headache

SKYLA (LEVONORGESTREL): This product is a small, flexible device that is placed in the womb (uterus) to prevent pregnancy. It is used by women who want to use a reversible birth control method that works for a long time (up to 3 years). The device slowly releases a hormone (levonorgestrel) that is similar to a hormone that women normally make. This device helps prevent pregnancy by making cervical fluid thicker, interfering with sperm movement, and reducing sperm survival to prevent sperm from reaching an egg (fertilization). It also changes the lining of the uterus (womb) to prevent attachment of a fertilized egg. If a fertilized egg does not attach to the uterus, it passes out of the body. This device may also stop the release of an egg from your ovary (ovulation), but this is not the way it works in most women. Using this product does not protect you or your partner against sexually transmitted diseases (such as HIV, gonorrhea, chlamydia). (Sources: U.S. Centers for Medicare Services, FDA)

This is my 7th day, it is 4:30 am and I am now awake...again. Intermittent hot flashes and chills...aggravating menopausal symptoms.Feel like I cannot function at work; an avid exerciser, but no energy to make it to the gym. Liver does not tolerate statins, so not sure about next steps...by reading the reviews here, seems the worse is yet to come. Sugar seems to aggravate the symptoms.

Can't live without it! Even if my headache is in full force I can take one and drink a Gatorade and within the hour....GONE! NOTHING else works for me.

This is a very dangerous medicine-I stopped taking recently and feel like my body is going through hell now, but better than before when I was taking it. Very tired and energy-less, I do not feel like myself anymore. Doctors should be very careful when prescribing this medicine. I hope I will feel better eventually.

Dr did not know anything about danger, only that it was "good" for me

My 6 year old daughter was prescribed this medicine for strep throat since she is allergic to amoxicillin (facial swelling). Poor thing, she has had anxiety, major panic attacks, hallucinations, acting out dreams, sleep walking and talking, weird hunger waves and diarrhea. My personal conclusion is that she is allergic to this medication as well.

rash - don't know if it was caused by tylenol or not.

Compazine is a HORRIBLE medication

I will never take this med again. I can't believe all the people who have such a bad reaction to this antibiotic and it's still prescribed. I have made it to day eight and finally figured out it was the antibiotic. I'm suppose to take for 10 day I'm stopping it. I can't take anymore.

Side effects made drug nearly unbearable but it works

Do you call them side effects or should they be called effects. No way can I work or enjoy life at this time, only hope is that I can adjust to the effects soon.
