No weight gain, maybe even slight 1-2lbs) weight loss.i did have strange cramps in my toes and feet that I never had before. Definite increased anxiety. I am switching to Generess FE because I think Safyral has been causing my hair to shed over time. It also changed the texture from thick and slightly wavy to pin needle straight. But, I did not get pregnant. I am 43 years old, very active, 5'5" 125lbs. and stayed that way on this pill.

The only thing I liked about this BCP is cleared up my acne, and no breakthrough bleeding or unplanned pregnancies. I hated losing my hair more and more over the 10 months while on it! I also hated the lack of sex drive, intense carb cravings and fatigue I experienced toward the middle-end of each pack. I will be switching back to LoEstrin FE next month because the side affects are becoming worse with time.
SAFYRAL (DROSPIRENONE; ETHINYL ESTRADIOL; LEVOMEFOLATE CALCIUM): This combination hormone medication is used to prevent pregnancy. It contains 2 hormones: an estrogen (ethinyl estradiol) and a progestin (drospirenone). It works mainly by preventing the release of an egg (ovulation) during your menstrual cycle. It also makes vaginal fluid thicker to help prevent sperm from reaching an egg (fertilization) and changes the lining of the uterus (womb) to prevent attachment of a fertilized egg. This product also contains a folate supplement (such as l-methylfolate, levomefolate). Folate is a B-vitamin that women of childbearing age use to help prevent spinal cord defects in an unborn baby. The folate supplement in this medication, along with a diet rich in folate, lowers this risk if you become pregnant while taking this drug or soon after you stop taking it. Besides preventing pregnancy, birth control pills may make your periods more regular, and may decrease blood loss, painful periods, and the risk of ovarian cysts. I have been so cranky and tearful, other times flat. I want to be me. My periods are a nightmare but at least I know what to expect. I am stopping this after 6 days and will consider again if menopause strikes me hard and I have less choice. Your feedback has helped me make this decision, and I loved all of your honesty and humor about the psychotic lunacy of women and hormones!
This medication has been a godsend to me. I used to experience excruciating burning in my face as well as redness, but the burning was there whether or not my face was red. It was so painful that I would just want to cry. I've used the medication for 3-4 years and I have never had even one episode of burning. The acne is virtually nil (occasional flareup) and the redness is nearly gone. I believe I have permanent redness that will never go away, but overall, I'm extremely happy with how my skin looks and feels. Sad that the heartburn developed since I really don't want to have to take a Prevacid-type medication, but the payoff is worth it. I've never had any problem with joint paint or nausea after taking it. In fact, when I asked my dermatologist if the heartburn could be related, he said I didn't need to wait an hour to eat after taking the medication. BTW, my heartburn usually starts several hours after I've taken my dose, so it doesn't start right away. Also, I used to have a lengthy history of yeast infections so I have sworn off antibiotics as much as possible. I have had no yeast infections while on this medication. I love love love it!
I took Bactrim 2 months ago for a UTI and experienced no side effects besides mild nausea. Today I started day 1 of the treatment for a staph infection. I am itching everywhere and feel sun burned. There is no rash, just itching everywhere.
I have had two ablations but still get break thru when I exercise so this drug has been great for me. Cannot do the same level of intense cardio do to reduced heart rate but still adequate.
Just starting. I will report back how it goes.
