Side Effects for Prevalite (cholestyramine)

I don't like the texture of the powder. It does not mix well. However, it is totally worth it!!

I don't take this everyday.....mostly if I know I'm going to be eating out or some kind of event. I do not have to center my whole life around a bathroom anymore!

This is a miracle drug for me. I've had "dumping sydrome" after gall bladder removal - bile dumps directly into intestines and works as a laxative. This med binds it and really helps. I also have Crohn's disease.

Wow, this is the first medication which works My doctor does not know why it works.

PREVALITE (CHOLESTYRAMINE): Cholestyramine is used along with a proper diet to lower cholesterol in the blood. Lowering cholesterol helps decrease the risk for strokes and heart attacks. In addition to a proper diet (such as a low-cholesterol/low-fat diet), other lifestyle changes that may help this medication work better include exercising, losing weight if overweight, and stopping smoking. Consult your doctor for more details. Cholestyramine may also be used to treat itching in people with too much bile acid caused by a certain type of liver/bile duct disease (partial biliary obstruction). This medication is known as a bile acid-binding resin. It works by removing bile acid from the body. In people with high cholesterol, this causes the liver to make more bile acid by using cholesterol in the blood. This helps to lower the cholesterol levels. I applied the directed amount the night of my doctors appt. I used it again in the morning. By 6pm, I was sweating excessively, dizzy and had diarrhea. I stopped using the ointment. Have had dizziness, vomiting and headachessince. It’s been 4 days.

I get depressed unless I take a drug holiday. I am probably going to have to take a couple consecutive days off a week and let it clear, otherwise the symptoms will persist. (according to my doctor)

I have been suffering with migraines for many years but lately they have become much worse. However, I am also being treated for severe depression and anxiety (Effexor & Valium plus Ambien for sleep}. Can anyone tell me how long the side effects might last because they are wearing me out? I am a bright professional woman who feels quite embarrassed to speak to my peers when I am unable to find the right word or my speech becomes slurred. I am hoping someone will be willing to talk to me about this challenge.

Initially Atarax helped for my hives, but after taking 4 25mg each day, then 8 a day, then more and more, my hives still came out all over my body....It's like my body wanted more and more Atarax.....so then I went on Prednisone....and then Doxepin

heart racing, lightheaded, lump in back of throat, tremors, dry throat, numbness in arms & legs

No reported side effects from MY personal experience. It does burn as I am injecting & the burning lasts quite a while after but is not something that would make me want to stop taking this medication.
