It's been 20 years so I'm not certain although I've wondered about weight gain
I love my Ogen! I've been on it for over 20 years now and hate to think about getting off it. I experienced major depression after my hysterectomy and terrible hot flashes. I was allergic to Premarin and other estrogens. I feel lucky to have found ogen, and think that it has helped my skin remain supple, etc.
Sticks with you - unlike estrace. Can take it once a day with no hot flashes. When I tried taking estrace I had to take it twice as often at twice the dose and it still didn't work as well as Ogen. I use the generic by Watson FYI.
OGEN .625 (ESTROPIPATE): This medication is a female hormone. It is used by women to help reduce symptoms of menopause (such as hot flashes, vaginal dryness). These symptoms are caused by the body making less estrogen. If you are using this medication to treat symptoms only in and around the vagina, products applied directly inside the vagina should be considered before medications that are taken by mouth, absorbed through the skin, or injected. Certain estrogen products may also be used by women after menopause to prevent bone loss (osteoporosis). However, there are other medications (such as raloxifene, bisphosphonates including alendronate) that are also effective in preventing bone loss and may be safer. These medications should be considered for use before estrogen treatment. Certain estrogen products may also be used by men and women to treat cancers (certain types of prostate cancer, breast cancer that has spread to other parts of the body) and by women who are not able to produce enough estrogen (for example, due to hypogonadism, primary ovarian failure). Have to be very careful when you stop taking this drug or miss a dose, the side effects can be quite extremem.
As time wears on this medicine is actually starting to scare me. If my irritability increases any more I fear of regaining sanity. The gradual increase of these side effects almost makes one think it is my imagination, but talking to other professionals it is not my imagination. Driving is the scariest.
GoLytely tastes like salt water. I didn't add anything, but here's what worked pretty well for me: I poured it into an 8-oz glass, held my nose and drank it with a straw which was positioned fairly far back in my mouth. I gulped it down because I didn't want to taste it. Don't let go of your nose or you WILL gag. I drank 16 glasses and felt that was plenty. There was still enough for about another glass-and-a-half left; OH WELL. No results for about an hour - 8 glasses worth. Then, I had about 3 trips where I thought I was going to fill the entire toilet. After that, trips were frequent but more clear. My butt surely did get sore. I would advise just dabbing the area gently - I didn't use any vaseline, but that is probably an excellent idea. I had some broth and white wine for dinner, Jello for dessert, and will be retiring to bed shortly so I don't have to think about how hungry I am.
Although it relieved the pain and I slept for several hours, I could barely get up to use the bathroom. I was very tired and groggy the next day and started experiencing palpitations. After 3 days I had an episode of atrial fibrillation which lasted about 4 hours. I was ready to go to the ER. I had not had an episode for over a year so I attribute it to the Flexeril.
I was put on Sprintec because I have been on my period since Sept 2016. It is not the end of Oct 2016 and I have been taking Sprintec for about 6 days now and I finally stopped bleeding. My doctor said that this would help regulate my periods. However, my periods were not irregular until this summner when I started having these really long periods starting in June and that one lasted until August and she gave me the Depo shot which helped for a coupl weeks and then I started my cycle again in September. I am having headaches and tension running from the top of my head down the left side of my neck so I just take the BCpill with Ibuprofen.
My doctor started me on another antihypertensive first called lisinopril 20 MG./day. He said it wasn't working well enough so he added the hydrochlorothiazide to it. One time I came home after having a few beers and ate dinner. Felt just fine, relaxing on my bed reading. Went to the fridge to get a soda and blacked out from attack of LOW blood pressure. Woke up on the floor a few seconds later not knowing where I was. Doctors are notorious for trying to get peoples bp way down. Be sure to get your own bp monitor so you know where you stand on this issue and don't take un-needed medicine.
I had a very bad reaction to this drug.
Very bad rash, hives,simular to bad sunburn. Muscle aches, joint pain, weakness, dizzy to the point of passing out,nauseous.
Only one side effect and it was a realistic nightmare EVERY night and that I took it.
