I have been on this medication since its introduction over 10 years ago. While I have not experienced a tolerance to the med, I have, over all of these years, been treated for almost ALL of the side effects listed in this forum (significant weight gain despite high activity, depression, sedation, etc.). Until recently, I was on 2 antidepressants simultaneously (Wellbutrin XL and Lexapro). The thing that is freaking me out is that on 2 occasions that I have stopped taking it, I experienced WITHDRAWAL SYPTOMS like I would expect from going off of a narcotic (abdominal cramping, diarrhea, fatigue). This is my final attempt and I am weaning myself off of it (Zyrtec every 3rd day and taking Claritin on the off days). Pharmacists assured me there was no such thing as withdrawal from Zyrtec. Thanks to this forum, I finally understand.

dizzy, tired, pain in hands ,heart palpitations could not figure out what was wrong with me. stop taking for a week then started back up. same thing i'm done with it

Increased appetite-especially for sweets which caused a huge weight gain, constant drowsiness even though I slept like a baby. Over time it actually made my migraines a lot worse and I had no idea it was from elavil. Anxiety and panic attacks started later on that I have NEVER had in my life.

I got diagnosed with deep vein thrombosis after 7 months of taking this.

this drug makes you very tired at first and emotional. STICK WITH IT! These side effects lessen after about 2 weeks. Eventually, you may still need more sleep, but you won't feel as tired as the first couple of weeks.

Lantus has given me tight control of my blood sugar. It works very well. I Give lantus an all star.rating. My blood sugar is now normal thanks too lantus.

bladder was not emptying completely

Tiredness...so tired all the time, dry mouth, constant urination, forgetful, tinnitus, negative thoughts, unexpected rage

I could have died from the stroke I had, instead I am left permanently disabled!

This drug was great at first, but after the first year on 60mg it seemed to not have as great an effect. The last 6 months on the drug was when these side effects were experienced, eventually leading to the panic disorder (which I now know was caused by interdose withdrawal.) After a miserable experience with discontinuation syndrome, even with slow tapering, I would strongly encourage anyone considering this drug to do a lot of research first. I'm not one to post my opinion on the internet but since this drug is currently being agressively advertised, I was strongly moved to report my experience.
