Fortical (calcitonin salmon recombinant) Side Effects, Uses Dosages

Side Effects for Fortical (calcitonin salmon recombinant)

I've been using a nasal spray for over five years. Broke a bone last year, had full body x-ray that showed no improvement in bone density. This after also taking calcium. Really disappointed.Don't know whether to try anything else.

I've taken both Fortical and the generic Calcitonin Salmon and have not experienced any side effects. The Fortical smelled a little pungent, but I got used to it. For some reason the generic doesn't have that smell. I am very relieved to find a medication that I can tolerate so well. Hopefully it will help with the bone loss.

One of the oldest and best meds for this condition....

FORTICAL (CALCITONIN SALMON RECOMBINANT): This medication is used to treat brittle bone disease (osteoporosis) in women who are at least 5 years past "the change of life" (menopause). Calcitonin works by slowing bone loss to help maintain strong bones and reduce your risk of fractures. This product has been withdrawn from the Canadian market due to safety problems. I dread every dose. I am on day 3 of 7. I am gonna finish the course, because my infection was so severe it lead to cervicitis. I can't tell right now which is worse, the infection or the med. I am training for a triathlon and am having to take some days off from workmg out due to the incredible side effects. My doctor only said don't drink alcohol with this med due to the fact it would make me very sick. He didn't say anything about feeling so sick otherwise. This medication is important to take because it kills anaerobic bacteria versus aerobic bacteria. Other meds like Cipro, amoxicillin and clindamycin do not kill anaerobic bacteria. My advice is to try to finish the course unless you have rash or other signs of anaphylaxis. Luckily I am a nurse so I know what to look for regarding side effects. But, for others, it is not so easy. Funny thing is, I give this drug to patients all the time. I never knew the side effects could be so bad...

OH MY GOSH! I've experienced the same symptoms so many of the respondents have. I've been taking Boniva on-and-off five years. Sometimes skipping a couple of months 'just because' I don't like taking drugs constantly, I never once attributed any of these symptoms to Boniva. This week, I've been experiencing terrible jaw pain that radiates up-to-and-into my cheek bone. I have a dentist appointment this afternoon to check for TMJ. All of my teeth ache, hurt; Advil and warm compresses help but not enough. I will definitely tell the dentist about taking Boniva..this could possibility be a definite side effect. Wish I had know about this website sooner...ALSO, my platelet count has been significantly reduced...no one seemed to understand why. Now I know.

I take the generic brand of zyrtec because its a whole lot cheaper and works just as good.

My sister used this for smoking cessation and it worked like a miracle drug for her with no SE's. It does the same 'miracle' of making me not want to smoke. But the SE's are atrocious. I believe it also amplified a crisis situation we'd had here as well making me 100 times more depressed than I normally would have been (I even thought I shouldn't give this much a damn about this situation, but I did). It really is like someone made the miracle drug that makes you so jacked up while on it, you eagerly go back to dealing with sh*t on your own....like nicotine withdrawal.....OR what you THOUGHT was depressing before WB was nothing like slowly going crazy on this stuff. Glad it works for some of you though!
