The worst taste in my mouth at all times despite extremely meticulous oral care, sinus rinsing, etc.
In the 13 months or so that I've been taking this medication I've had no side effects. That all changed 01/28/21, when I had a MAJOR possible side effect, a very serious one: bone fracture. What happened is a long, involved traumatic story, anyone who wants more info feel free to e-mail me. If you have ostopoenia or osteoporosis, MAKE SURE TO LET YOUR DOCTOR KNOW IF THEY DON'T ASK YOU! Mine didn't ask me, now I'm paying for it.
When a doctor prescribes Flovent HFA, they need to start asking the patient if they have osteopoenia or osteoporosis since this inhaler can cause bone thinning, which can lead to bone fracture. Because of what happened to me 01/28/21, I now need emergency oral surgery to the tune of $6,350.
No side effects from this drug, which surprises me still to this day. Reluctantly I had switched to this drug after I got off of the very god-awful symbicort which I had suffered many painful nasty problems.
My new doctor suggested I try Flovent HFA 110 mcg after I told her of the many side effects I gotten from using the other drug for which I was told nothing about from my last allergist who made no mention of or gave any warnings about it's possibility of causing harm. I know each person reacts differently to certain types of drugs, but it would have been greatly appreciated if I was told that there might possibly be some drawbacks, instead of telling me to stay on symbicort until I reached my 80th birthday!
Doesn't really work for me, plus I started getting joint pain, and back pain on full adult dose, not long after starting it. Left doctor who prescribed it for various reasons, including dismissing my concerns.New doctor prescribed lower dose, but lately, with the spacer, it has caused asthma flareup to the point I needed to use my nebulizer. Happened Saturday and Sunday. Monday, I called the doctor, and told her. She told me to stop it.I also seem to get colds that last a few weeks, instead of a week or two.I have had trouble with other ICS, also. After a few weeks or months, they quit working, and end up making it even harder to breathe.
I caught a cold aggrevating the COPD. So it was a new prescription. Symptoms came on gradually, by the 3rd day I was extremely irritated for no reason. I felt angry for nothing. I figured it was the new drug. I quit taking it 2 days ago and am exhausted but no longer angry or irritated.
Extreme worsening of asthma symptoms--shortness of breath, chest pain, sleep disturbance. Did not happen immediately after dose--woke up with symptoms in the morning. Ended up in ER and back on oral steroids.
This side effect is not uncommon, yet my doc acted as if I were the only freak this ever happened to. I finally stopped taking it (against her advice) and the symptoms gradually went away. I no longer see this physician.
None, Have been using this medicine for over a decade, I take 1 puff in the morning and I'm good for the day, maybe once or twice a year I use my rescue inhaler, The doctor tells me to take 2 puffs 2 times a day, but I don't need to use more than what I feel my body needs.
flovent works good,but you have to take it regulary for it to work.I have no side effects from this medicine.I think most of the side effects that some of the people are talking about would disappear once the body adjusted to the medicine.
I began Flovent at around 5PM the first night. I took my second dose around 7AM the next morning, and by the time I was at work at 9AM I was feel tingly, my heartbeat was 96, I was coughing, I had a lump in my throat, and I was fatigued and dizzy. It got so bad I had to tell my boss I was leaving. I almost started crying when I told him, which was very strange, because while I was concerned about my condition, I was in no way upset or sad, but I couldn't seem to control my emotions. I spent the rest of the day at home, sitting in a chair, feeling totally out of it. Scary stuff...
Made me irritable/depressed and sad. This came on gradually over several days.
Since this drug doesn't seem to do much for asthma I don't think I'll use it. The degree of help is not worth the side effects, which are pretty spooky.
My otherwise happy go lucky 12yr old, who has been on this medicine about 18months, has recently become depressed, and cannot explain why he feels this way. There have been no recent events in his life to cause these feelings, and the only medicine he takes regularly is Flovent HFA. After doing some research online, it seems that although this wasn't one of the reported symptoms in the clinical trial, many people have reported depression as a side effect of this medication. I have called his respiratory specialist and asked for another medication.
occasionally lost voice and had oral thrush once
I didn't rinse my mouth or use a spacer all the time, that is why these things happened...but also my doctor reduced my dosage to the least amount and it still works well. Before Flovent, I had to be on a prednisone burst once a month. Now I only need prednisone maybe twice a year if I have a bad virus or if I'm around an allergy trigger for too long.

My son has mild asthma, wheezing for just 2 days after an upper respiratory tract infection. He was prescribed Flovent HFA. I was very worried about giving this to him, based on all of the possible side effects. But after a lot of pressure from his doctors, I decided to start slowly and give him just one puff (44 mcg) yesterday morning to start. He had a pretty normal day, maybe a little bit more clingy and irritable, but no problem. He went to bed fine for bedtime, but he then woke up each hour ALL NIGHT LONG, SOBBING. He was just weeping, inconsolable. I have never seen my son like this before. He is such an easy-going boy who never complains. Even when he is teething all of his molars and in the middle of a bad cold, he does not cry and sleeps through the entire night. Last night, after just ONE PUFF of Flovent in the morning, he had the WORST NIGHT OF HIS LIFE. He woke up each hour inconsolably crying for 45 minutes until we could console him back to sleep, just to wake up again a little bit later WEEPING. Flovent is a HORRENDOUS medication. What kind of poison must be in this drug to cause such a horrible reaction after just ONE PUFF ?!!!! I will never give my son this medication again.
I have had no negative side effects except a slight metallic taste in my mouth sometimes. Of course, you are supposed to rinse out your mouth after each inhalation.
I had my allergy doctor switch me from Advair to Flovent (since Flovent does not contain a Long-acting Bronchodilator). An LABD can cause heart failure, so needless to say that was a concern. Advair has both an LABD and a corticosteroid. Flovent just has a corticosteroid, which I felt more comfortable with.

This medication must be used regularly to be effective. It does not work right away and should not be used to relieve sudden asthma attacks. None that I'm certain of, but it may be causing GERD or agravating an existing condition.
I consider this a miracle drug as it has helped me daily with focusing and energy both as an educator and as a graduate student. When I don't take it, I get very tired around mid morning or noon and I remember that I had not taken the medicine. My doctor thought it was the perfect medication for seniors with no known side effects.
Sleepiness, occasional nausea, occasional slight headaches.
The doctor took me to take Claritin. I tried it a year ago for spring allergies and experienced weird heath issues. I did not connect it to Claritin.Went back to it about 20 days ago and at first everything was fine, then my heart starters to race and I felt light headed. I took it Saturday morning and then in the evening I Found this sight and decided to go off.Didn't take it Sunday morning and by 1:00 I was so dizzy and my heart was racing so fast I thought I was gonna die!!By evening I had the worst headache in my right side and beck area.Woke up today, heart still beating a little fast and so dizzy still.I hope this gets out of my system soon…Don't know what else to do to help it clear out faster…Please let this be a warning to help others..The doctor said this was safe clearly not for everyone!!
I am always leery about a drug that requires weekly, then monthly blood tests, but I will say that it is the only thing that has been able to put me to sleep for more than 2 hours. I have tried at least 30 different meds and none of them worked as well as clozapine. I've been taking it for almost 2 years now.
This was the first medication that ever worked for my depression. It gave me motivation to pursue my hobbies again. The sleepiness was intense at first and I could NOT wake up unless I slept at least 8 to 10 hours, but that did go away after a couple weeks. I sleep really well on this medication. I actually quit taking it because I didn't like the low blood sugar episodes and risk of diabetes - which I'm at risk for already - or the insatiable hunger and weight gain. I tried Abilify and it was actually much worse. So I'm back on the Symbyax. I don't know if I'm going to develop diabetes or how long I'll be able to stay on this, but it really is the only thing that works.
I tried 20 mg a felt panicky (sp?). I went off of it for about a week, and then tried it again. Felt OK, and was able to increase dose, but by the time that I was on 80 mg BID I was feeling agitated, and having difficulty sleeping. I've been dropped down to 80mg and 60mg, and feel a little better.
I will continue taking Lamictal to the 400 mg that my doctor has recommended, unless things get really terrible. I do feel so much better than I did a month ago that I'm fairly amazed.
