Side Effects for Extended phenytoin sodium (phenytoin sodium, extended)

After 30 years of good seizure control with Dilantin, started taking the generic form due to my HMO's insistance. 4 days later, had a seizure while driving. Don't care what HMO's say, generic is not the same!(blood levels fell from 14 ug/ml to 5.6 ug/ml)

-bad heartburn-the seizures did not stop; in fact, 2 weeks after I started taking it, I had 2 seizures in one night and the start of a seizure the next (I fought the third seizure off). On Topamax, I had no seizures for over 9 months.

Immediately after taking the first glassful I started to feel very cold, I could not warm up. After the 2nd glass I got an optical migraine. Migraine went away in 20 mins, chills continued into the night.

WEIGHT GAIN, depression, tired all the time, no sex drive

It did help my sinuses, but not worth the side effects by any means. In fact this stuff should be pulled off the market as I am about to lose my job which requires the utmost precision and skill.

I have severe and chronic lower back pain with Fibromyalgia which resulted in my developing depression. Consequently, I was placed on anti-depressants to counteract the side effects of pain medication, and also because the constant pain sucked the life out of me. Initially I was on Effexor (YIKES!), but had to stop this drug after only a few days. Subsequently I was placed on Zoloft for several years, then Celexa for several more, and finally Cymbalta in an effort to decrease the SSRI side effects the first two medications had. Each time I switched drugs I had to stop completely to start the other. I had no adverse withdrawal side effects from either Zoloft or Celexa; however Cymbalta was a different story. I had tried several times before to quit Cymbalta but because of the extreme withdrawal side effects, I was forced to stay on it. The evidence for me is irrefutable; Cymbalta has absolutely no redeeming value when compared to any other type of SSRI anti-depressant. In Fact, I believe it should either be removed from the market or be deemed a controlled substance, not because patients would be inclined to abuse this drug, but that physicians are in an effort to improve mood and block pain without having to dispense pain medication. Even the most innocuous of prescribed pain medication has vastly more therapeutic value, simply because Cymbalta has none. DO NOT TAKE THIS DRUG, IT IS DANGEROUS. Cymbalta is a living nightmare, avoid it.

I was on this drug for almost a year at 10mg a day. I gained probably 15 pounds. I remember having one awful dream of my getting into a car accident and waking up on the ground looking down and seein my leg was gone and i was laying in a pool of blood. It was so vivid and real, I swear i thought i was actually dying. I was super pissed about the weight gain, I had leukemia when I was on this drug because the chemo made my headaches worse, so i thought from sitting around sick all the time my metabolism slowed and thats why i gained weight. so i tried to lose it by cutting back about 700 calories a day, and going to the gym. i did not lose a fucking pound. when the more sever effects happened recently (palpitations, throwing up, etc) i was taken off the drug cold turkey with no withdrawal effects. i hope hope hope that the weight will start to come off easier now with my diet and excersize. this is a bad bad drug that made me very sick and fat and i hate it! if anyone has taken this dru

thanks to those comments they solved the mystery his teacher was asking me why did he suddenly had no controle over urination now i know whats wrong!!!my son is three and he's been potty trained more than a year ago and i was shocked he was wetting himself again and his sleeping is very disrupted. he's been on and off pulmicort since he was one year old, but new symptoms came up this time only three days after inhaling it ONCE a day.

I almost killed myself, be careful with this stuff. It's much more dangerous than most other drugs.
