Side Effects for Exjade (deferasirox)

Terrible reaction with whelps/hives all over body.

EXJADE (DEFERASIROX): This medication is used to treat ongoing high levels of iron in the body caused by multiple blood transfusions. It is also used to treat high levels of iron in people with a certain blood disorder who do not require blood transfusions (non-transfusion-dependent thalassemia). It works by binding to iron, allowing the body to pass extra iron out in the stool. Deferasirox belongs to a class of drugs known as iron-chelating agents. Frequent blood transfusions are often needed in certain types of blood diseases (such as sickle cell disease, anemia). Blood transfusions have very helpful benefits, but they can cause the body to hold on to too much iron. The extra iron can build up in the body and cause problems such as heart failure, liver disease, and diabetes. Getting rid of extra iron can decrease the risk of these diseases. this worked better whenI first started tking it. I started at 2. mg and now take 3 mg.

After about 3 months began getting sciatica and pain in piri formis muscle. Went of Zetia and symptoms slowly went away. I tried to go back and within 2 days returned. Had more problems with statins.

Hypertension and borderline MVP

I've only been on the pill for 6 days so, I'm not really too concerned about the side effects. I remember when I was on the pill when I was 18 that I went through these side effects for the first 1 to 3 months. I just don't like the side effects. The nausea is awful and usually after I eat a meal. The bloating is constant and hope it goes away. My fingers are constantly puffy and I am hoping these side effects go away soon. :)

Slight weight gain and continually tired

drowsiness, slowed speech and thoughts.

Initial side effects were trouble breathing, similar to chest pains or a slight asthma attack for about 2 weeks. This receded and hasn't come back. I feel great overall, however; I can really tell a difference if I forget to take my pill til later in the day. Also I gained 15 pounds the first month with no change to diet or exercise. Two months later I lost almost 10 of it, again, no change in diet or exercise. Since then I keep gaining. I have gained a tolal of 20 pounds, mostly in my waist, butt, hip area.

Puts me to sleep immediately, so I take it right before bedtime.

anxiety attack an shortness of breath

I followed Psychiatrists advice to stop taking this medication. He advised to reduce over 4 weeks though i reduced over 5 weeks. 9 days after completely stopping i ended up in hospital with the experience listed to the left. HAD I KNOWN THIS I WOULD NEVER HAVE STARTED TAKING LUVOX!! i have now been placed back onto this medication as i have an overactive receptor that requires an even longer titrated reduction. First thought of going back on this was "No way!" though the Dr explained i would need to start taking this again (12.5mg) along with valium 5-20mg as needed to try and control any withdrawal syndrome and prevent any re-admittance to hospital. Am now 2 days back in to taking the medication and cannot sleep. I just want this all to stop! Its going to be a couple of months to completely stop taking luvox
