Elidel (pimecrolimus) Side Effects, Uses Dosages

Side Effects for Elidel (pimecrolimus)

I was prescribed this medication for perioral dermatitis (POD). It is the only treatment so far that has helped my symptoms. After 1 week of applying a thin layer to the effected area of my face, nose and eyes, the itchy, bumpy, red tight, dry rash was almost entirely gone. Just a faint redness remains around the sides of my nose and mouth. I have been applying the cream once daily for the past 9 months. I have tried discontinuing the Elidel for 2-3 days, but the POD begins to return. I wish I could identify and treat the root problem of my POD so that I am not dependent on this medication. But I am happy that I have something that helps. Neither my dermatologist nor I have been able to determine what the underlying cause of my POD is. A 2 month trial of 100mg doxycycline 1x/day was not effective in reducing any of the POD symptoms. My derm. was very surprised by this. I am going to try topical adapelene and azelaic acid. Hopefully one will calm down the POD enough so that I can discontinue the Elidel, which has an application site cancer warning.Update: My dermatologist said that Elidel is safe to use despite what the FDA guidelines say about not using for longer than 2 weeks. My derm. also said that the black box warning it carries for increased risk of melanoma is not true. My derm is a very smart guy who I know personally, so I trust his judgment. I've increased the dose and my POD is remitting again.

I quickly developed allergic hives all over my face. Each hive had a small liquid whitehead in its center. I had to use both topical and systemic antihistamines for 5 days now, and it still has not completely resolved.

If you have sensitive skin, think twice before using this.

ELIDEL (PIMECROLIMUS): Pimecrolimus is used to treat certain skin conditions such as eczema (atopic dermatitis) in people who should not use or have not responded to other eczema medications (e.g., topical steroids). Eczema is an allergic-type condition that causes red, irritated, and itchy skin. This drug works by changing the skin's defense (immune) system, thereby decreasing the allergic reaction that causes eczema. Pimecrolimus belongs to a class of drugs known as topical calcineurin inhibitors (TCIs). This medication is not recommended if you have a history of a certain rare genetic disorder (Netherton's syndrome). Also, this medication should not be used by anyone who has a weakened immune system (e.g., following an organ transplant). (Sources: U.S. Centers for Medicare Services, FDA)

First two months @ 150 MG none of note. Now @ 300 MG heart palpitations, insomnia, tremor, anxiety, nausea, forgetfulness, disconnected feeling, dizzy.

did not like it. xanax works better on me. thats it. it just did not seem to help at all

I was initially given Lovastatin for borderline high cholesterol (222) after I went through menopause. Within two days I started to fell queasy and very tired. I continued to take it for two months and never felt well. My doctor switched me to Pravachol as an alternative when I complained about side effects. I had only taken this medication three days when I noticed severe head pain on the top of my head (like it was going to explode!) and facial pain. A day later my BP which had always been very good shot up to 182/102, I developed nausea, pain in my left arm and diarrhea. Went to the ER and NO cause for this could be found. I quit taking Pravachol that day and the next day my BP was lower and, on the third day without it, my BP was 114/80. I haven't had a headache since and feel SO MUCH BETTER. I am going to lose 30 lbs., start doing Pilates again and keep taking fish oil, olive oil, and eating avocados which have brought my cholesterol and triglyceride levels down before meno

Dry mouth! Like someone else said, it makes it hard to eat. I have to take a sip of water with every bite in order to swallow. Also, ringing in my ears now and then.

it cured the infection but at what cost? the "old" antibiotics work fine for UTI's in the past. i wont take this drug again unless a first round of Arythromyacin wont cut it. good luck!

I started taking the drug every other day instead of once a day a couple of months ago. It seems to lessen the hair loss and I still get most of the benefit of the drug. Discussed with my dr. who doubts it's from Myrbetriq--I should get other causes ruled out. I'll finish out my current rx and see how things stand. I still have about 3 mo of it left at the current rate.

Neuropathy in my feet, weak leg muscles. Cannot get up off the floor without using my arms to help me get up.

All I am going to say is this. DO NOT USE BUDEPRION BY TEVA. IT DOES THE EXACT OPPOSITE OF Wellbutrin/BUPROPRION. On Budeprion I had zero sex drive, no erections, nothing. I mean NOTHING. I had severe headaches and brain zaps. I dry heaved and had extreme jitters. I would not recommend this at all. AT ALL.On Buproprion I had much better results. I want sex all the time. No brain zaps. No dry heaving. HAPPY. Very happy. This drug is making my life much better. I haven't been in this good of a mood in over 5 years. I am also taking lamictal with it. There are no side effects that I have felt yet. I am very happy and recommend Buproprion XL for depression and if your other medications are killing your sex drive. You won't regret it.
