Side Effects for Cryselle (ethinyl estradiol; norgestrel)

CRYSELLE (ETHINYL ESTRADIOL; NORGESTREL): This combination hormone medication is used to prevent pregnancy. It contains 2 hormones: a progestin and an estrogen. It works mainly by preventing the release of an egg (ovulation) during your menstrual cycle. It also makes vaginal fluid thicker to help prevent sperm from reaching an egg (fertilization) and changes the lining of the uterus (womb) to prevent attachment of a fertilized egg. If a fertilized egg does not attach to the uterus, it passes out of the body. Besides preventing pregnancy, birth control pills may make your periods more regular, decrease blood loss and painful periods, decrease your risk of ovarian cysts, and also treat acne. Using this medication does not protect you or your partner against sexually transmitted diseases (such as HIV, gonorrhea, chlamydia). (Sources: U.S. Centers for Medicare Services, FDA)

When I spoke with my dr., telling him of my symptoms, he seemed to be surprised but said he would switch me to another medication. Prior to taking it, I will definitely check this website. Thank you so much to everyone who has posted.

Just started taking this drug 4 days ago. So far, I haven't noticed any side-effects at all, except that I am more thirsty than usual. The fact that it is a cancer drug scares the heck out of me, but I trust my doctor. I am on 50mg/day right now.

Slight nausea the first couple weeks (eased with dramamine), breast tenderness, slight weight gain, shorter time between periods and heavy bleeding during periods

I need the medicine to get rid of the infection which it is helping alot. But the side effects are awful. I have 3 days left but I will not take this again.

I love Seasonale. I've been on it over a year and never noticed anything bad until recently. I dont know if it's all stress related or not but I got an extra period (which I'm sure is breakthrough bleeding since I shouldnt have a period for another 2 months) but it's almost been 3 weeks now which is a pain! I wont give up on Seasonale yet though :)

I am using birth control medicine to control symptoms of PCOS, and was diagnosed nearly 10 years ago. Due to my complications described in the side effects column, I have stopped taking this pill and am now awaiting the results of blood testing to determine if another kind will be beneficial. Prior to being on Loestrin, I was on Yasmin, and only changed because I was looking to have a shorter period. I would suggest to anyone looking to change medications (or to start one) that they stay in contact with their physician and keep them apprised of any and all changes, no matter how small. I ignored my symptoms and did not think that my problems were tied to the pill. I've now spent more time and money to fix everything than I'd like to admit, so please listen to your body. Good luck!

this birthcontrol was GREAT until my blood pressure started going up.....and the headaches...and the upset stomach...there are alot of side affects.

I only took this for 3 days. The symptoms were so bad that I stopped. Everyone says to give it 2 weeks for the symptoms to pass but I couldn't do it. Doc prescribed to me mainly for weight loss and quitting smoking. They definitely do curb your appetite, in fact, you have no desire to eat which can be dangerous. I had to force feed myself and I could barely take a couple bites. I still had the urge to smoke so that didn't help, and I can't say it helped with anxiety because the pharmacist said it would take a month to be fully effective. The tremor it gave me was awful. My finger and hand constantly shook and I felt like I had no strength in my arms and hands.

rapid heart beat and chest pains

I went to the er and they gave me compazine and Benadryl right after I felt like I was dying couldn't sit still wants to rip my legs off I will never take this drug again worse experience in my life the only thing that helped me was the ativan they gave me
