Side Effects for Aranelle (ethinyl estradiol; norethindrone)

ARANELLE (ETHINYL ESTRADIOL; NORETHINDRONE): This combination hormone medication is used to prevent pregnancy. It contains 2 hormones: a progestin and an estrogen. It works mainly by preventing the release of an egg (ovulation) during your menstrual cycle. It also makes vaginal fluid thicker to help prevent sperm from reaching an egg (fertilization) and changes the lining of the uterus (womb) to prevent attachment of a fertilized egg. If a fertilized egg does not attach to the uterus, it passes out of the body. Besides preventing pregnancy, birth control pills may make your periods more regular, decrease blood loss and painful periods, decrease your risk of ovarian cysts, and also treat acne. Using this medication does not protect you or your partner against sexually transmitted diseases (such as HIV, gonorrhea, chlamydia). (Sources: U.S. Centers for Medicare Services, FDA)

I've been on this for just over two years now. Have changed my consultant due to a residential move and have been told that I have been on the drug too long and that I should now come off of it! From what I have read, it is normal, if the drug can be tolerated, to be on it for some years! I have agreed to cut the dose and come off of it as I have just about had enough with the tiredness, muscle pains and weakness. My vitamin D levels have been so low that I'm having to have regular vitamind D injections. Ok, I haven't had to go looking for toilets all the time over the past 2 - 3 years, but my quality of life has been a big zero. I have had no social life as I am just too tired to do anything, even more so than when my UC was at it's worst. I have a had an itchy rash on my right arm and on my face, along with acne, since I started the drug and nothing I have used or been prescribed has helped - even dermatologists have drawn a blank. Weighing up the pros and cons, I am happy to stop it. Just to say that I live in the United Kingdom (England).

Flu like symptoms, sneezing runny nose very very Tired no appetite

Dull headache, Nausea, mild dizziness - and inability to concentrate. Muscle ache and joint pain, mostly in neck, legs and knees. Now arms. Skin itches - starting from feet, then legs and now arms. I just stopped after realizing these are side effects from Allegra. Didn't think it was from the drug because I have occasionally took it in the past year and did not remember getting any side effects.

I have maybe 10-15 very small GW from my labia to my perineum. I noticed the warts about 4 months ago and started taking Aldara 7 weeks ago. I've used it just like the package and my Dr. said; one day on, one day off, except that I thought it wasn't working so I didn't wash it off. I just about DIED when i noticed 3 sores on my labia. i thought I had herpes, too. After i read this I sat in a warm bath and got it all off. BTW, those who can't pee because of the pain: try peeing in a warm shower. inconvenient, but it helps a lot. Mine never hurt that bad. just stung a little. I'm going to let them heal, then start up again. Has anyone else tried apple cider vinegar???

Nausea, tiredness, bone pain, joint pain, hot flashes, constipation, insomnia. But it beats the alternative, so far Femara has given me a lease on life. When i was diagnosed i was given 18-24 months to live, that was in October 2004

It helps.. but is the payoff worth it?

I was prescribed nasonex to help battle chronic blocked nose, recommended by my ENT. It helped minimally but did not completely clear my symptoms. Then last night I experienced extreme palpitations and chest pain along with anxiety. I felt like I was going to die and was awake all night. Called my GP first thing this morning and he said to stop taking nasonex immediately. I wouldn't recommend due to the severity of the side effects!

stopped taking a small amount of the medication (25mcg) because of blurry vision and tachycardia. then i decided to take it with vitamin C to see what happens. after taking levothyroxine with vitamin C 2x a day, i feel so much better. up to 250 mcg now. i am so glad i dont see those blurry spots floating around when on this med. wish i started it sooner. my muscles don't hurt and my depression isn't that bad anymore.

my daughters dr. gave her the rx because she has been having non stop ear infections, she suggested this to help her sinus to possibly help her ears. she has only been taking it since monday, it is now saturday, and i actually forgot to give it to her two days. But ever since the first time I gave it to her she has changed her personality completly. she is just starring into space and acting like a zombie. She has woken up for the past 3 nights in a row and has been up for 3-4 hours. I can tell she is exhausted but she can't fall back asleep. I NEVER have problems getting her to sleep. she had a slight fever today. I became really worried especially because of the way she has been "spaced out", I decided to look some info up on the internet and have found others had the same thing. i feel aweful for giving this to her. i am stopping and calling my doctor first thing monday

I think the med kills the flora in your upper intestine, so more food must be processed in lower intestine, leading to inflamation of lower intestine. Was scared enough by the bloating I called my doctor. I want rid of the sinusitis so badly that I am going to torture myself on this med for another 10 days, wish me luck. It seems to be working for that - I realized I had lost about half my sense of smell - did not know until just now the world actually STINKS sometimes! :D
