Dyazide (hydrochlorothiazide; triamterene) Side Effects, Uses Dosages

Side Effects for Dyazide (hydrochlorothiazide; triamterene)

Extreme head ache. Extreame Anxiety. Dizziness. Foggy brain. Weird sensations.

Treated for meniere's disease. Stopped immediately!

Well despite the constant elimination of salt and water from the other side of my body. except it's a constant struggle of maintaining homeostasis.

I was put on dyazide after having major problems with regular water pills. I would have preferred not to take them at all.

After the first dose, I started experiencing a rapid heart beat. It felt like my heart was going to come out of my chest. I normally have a " lowered" bp, so I could feel my bp was doing something abnormal. I felt shaky, disoriented and anxious. I decided to try it one more day knowing that medications have possible reactions, maybe it was just me, so the second dose just brought on more reactions. After this dose, my "anxious" feeling got more intense, my heart rate elevated again, and about an hour after taking it, my lips and face started tingling. That was enough for me!!! I called my doctor next day and he took me off of this medication.

I have never taken this medication before. I was prescribed this medication for treatment of Meniere's disease which I have recently been diagnosed with. Yes, it definitely did the job of a diuretic which is what it is supposed to do, but the side effects for me were enough. I am going to talk to my doctor and see if there is another alternative diuretic that I can take that does not produce these side effects. I am sure I am needing to be on something other than controlling my diet and my sodium intake, but if this is all that is out there to treat my condition, then I will go without. The reaction to this medication for me was as bad as trying to recoup from a severe Vertigo attack.....horrible!

I was prescribed this drug to reduce the pressure in my right ear which was causing tinnitus, feeling of pressure and fullness. Upon taking this med on the second day, i experienced severe dizziness with severe nausea and coming for three hours. After that, i passed out. I would never take this med again...side effects from this med is worse than the symptoms themselves...

After 30 days: anxiety, loss of appetite and lethargy. Mild arm numbness in arm and depression.

Helped my Tinnitus but SE were severe.

Pre Ménière's, inner ear issues

1 pill daily, Experience episodes of heavy sweating which is very uncomfortable sweating right when you get out of the shower feel like I need to take another shower 20 minutes later. I was just taking down the Christmas lightsand this is January I had to have a fan outside at the ladder and a towel to wipe the sweat off my body. God help me in the summertime, Not good

I don't want to have full-blown Ménière's and that's why I take this

Edema - Side Effect from Norvasc

I am taking this to treat extreme swelling of my feet and ankles which is likely a side effect of Norvasc (taken for chronic migraine). Within 12 hours of taking Dyazide I had my ankles back! I have had diarrhea for the past two evenings, but if I can stay hydrated I think it's a small price to pay for being migraine free and being able to wear shoes!

On the second day I woke up with foot cramp & a little less urinating. The third night I contitaking one @ 8pm even less ueinating @ night, bit I woke up in the middle of the morning with bad leg cramp. Now I will see what happen tonight. Have not recheck pressure yet. When I started feeling tire from it I instant felt like it could be due to loss of potassium, so I drank a 8 ounce of apple juice & thank God I feel better. Prayer is definitely helping me thru this.

After a few days the edema went down, but when diarrhea started I discontinued the Dyazide. I've gone through this scenario before; you see, I have UC which has been in remission for over a year and I won't take any med or eat any food that causes the UC to flare. There must be another med to take; else, I'll live with the edema.

I notice my feet sweat alot and vaginal dryness. no extra bathroom trips but I am not retaining water...not sure if this med will work for my issue. BP was 160/110 almost a week ago check last night after exercise and was 130/92. Dont know if its the med or the exercise, go back to the dr on 4/29. Plan: lose 5-10lbs and keep exercising.

Dont want long term meds, too young but bad fam history and over weight. I think weight loss will take care of the problem. plan to be off med by 7/2012

Felt like death warmed over and the worst hangover of my life. My BP fluctuated wildly; headache, severe nausea, light-headedness, couldn't stand for more than a few minutes, pulse spiking >170 bpm after non-stressful activities (walking up 6 stairs), BP would bottom out with no notice - suddenly I would be sitting on the floor, unable to even try to stand.

I was prescribed Dyazide to help with daily bouts of vertigo from Meniere's Disease. My BP has always been in the normal range, tending toward the lower end of normal, so a medication typically used for high BP caused me lots of problems. I called the doc's office after 8 days of terrible side effects; they told me to stop taking it and stick to a low sodium diet instead. I would rather have daily vertigo than deal with the terrible side effects from Dyazide.

I have been taking this drug since I was 36, now that I am older(48) I have noticed some side effects such as the tingling, in toes, & hands on occasion. If I miss taking it for a week, my ankles begin to feel swollen. It does make me urinate often, therefore I take this drug before 4pm each day. I have been getting frequent headaches lately and frequent loose bowel movements.

I take this drug along with one other (ATENELOL 100 mg.) They are supposed to work together, but you must cut the salt out to achieve any results with these two drugs. It is a cheap drug, and I hope it does not ruin my kidneys, after long term use. This is something I want to address to my Physician soon.

I took it in the a.m. and by late afternoon I had to go home from work because I had horrendous head pain and down the back of my neck. Could not get rid of the head pain until next morning and then the next evening still felt very bad.

I did not take any more of those pills as I was certainly afraid of the same thing happening again.

For the first month I was taking the drug I had Hot Flashes constantly. They lasted for about 1 month only. After being on the drug for 10 months I began to get foot cramps and am feeling fatigued 4 to 5 days a week. It has controlled my Hypertension and my reading are in the normal range on a daily basis.

I have been taking this for 3 days. I have tingling in hands and feet, cramping in legs, have no energy and feel very much out of it. Dizzy and headaches low grade. I am in good shape and a runner, very sad that I have high blood pressure at 47.

None until a year ago. Then tinnitus started in ears. Now have in both ears and tingling throughout body. Sometimes feels like something crawling inside or feeling of buzzing in body. Dr considering taking me off and using beta blocker with other diuretics.

First two weeks, got dizzy changing positions. Already have an inner ear problem so didn't like the extra dizzies. Now top right teeth are cold sensitive. Unsure if related. BP getting slightly lower. Vague headaches frequently. No weight loss.

Meds generally freak me out. Would rather control with diet, alternative therapies. Potassium was checked and is okay. Heart flutters. Triglyceride levels through the roof but difficult to believe that could be related. Jury's not in on this yet for me.

I am a 51 year old female with first time high blood pressure. After three weeks on dyazide I've lost 11 pounds! I don't retain fluids and I'm not having the problem with constant urination like others noted here. I cannot use any other type of BP meds because I'm a asthmatic so beta blockers will not work well with my asthma meds. Anyway, bottom line with dyazide I'm just simply not hungry (this is a good thing as I'm about 35 pounds overweight). I do feel dizzy occasionally and initially had a sense of restlessness, but that is subsiding. I would recommend this medication. BP is down, weight is down. A GOOD THING!

DYAZIDE (HYDROCHLOROTHIAZIDE; TRIAMTERENE): This drug is used to treat high blood pressure. Lowering high blood pressure helps prevent strokes, heart attacks, and kidney problems. This medication is a combination of two "water pills" (diuretics): triamterene and hydrochlorothiazide. This combination is used by people who have developed or are at risk for having low potassium levels on hydrochlorothiazide. It causes you to make more urine, which helps your body get rid of extra salt and water. This medication also reduces extra fluid in the body (edema) caused by conditions such as heart failure, liver disease, or kidney disease. This can lessen symptoms such as shortness of breath or swelling in your ankles or feet. (Sources: U.S. Centers for Medicare Services, FDA) Download our Free Resource Guide:

Mood swings, intense nightmares, constantly wanting to eat. Heavy depression. Tired.... I am by nature an insomniac but since taking these I sleep a LOT. Out of the 6 months I have been taking it, my period flowed for 4 months from the 2nd to the 5th month. I didn't think it was ever going to stop but it did finally, unless I miss a dose.

honestly perks have been the only thing keeping me together since I got cancer though I will admit a distinct addictive nature to them. first they help you sleep even if you are in pain as they make you groggy and dull the pain just enough. second they help maintain you emotional state even when life is at it's worst but on the down side they won't help when the pain is very severe. also withdrawal is not pleasant and the cravings are why I searched percocet on Google just now.

Joint pain in knees and hips when trying to sleep. Increased back pain during the day, general muscle weakness/ lack of strength. Abdominal pain at night. Occasional feeling of losing my balance forward ( need to take a step to correct). Increased hand tremors.

Violent stomach cramps, nausea, giddy, general malaise. Was prescribed 500 mg 4 times a day and after 1 day had to drop down to 250 mg 4 times a day. Gum abscess is going down, but I feel so ill.

this is my LAST chance before a hysterectomy I am very young and want my own children very badly I have had 3 lap surgerys and have had ongoing bleeding for months--I just wish someone would say something GOOD about this medicine-yes there are side effects but for people who are desperate to have a Normal life with less pain and less bleeding I guess they will try anythingplease someone tell me something good I can't take any more horror stories

Paranoid Schizophrenia and anxiety

very uncomfortable and painful, don't recommend

Has cured me twice with no side effects.

Doctors said Plaquenil doesn't cause those side effects so I stopped taking it and all side effects went away. (Was taking 400 mg per day) Started again a week later after all the lupus pain returned at 50mg per day. Cut the 200 mg pill into 4 pieces and take one piece in the morning with breakfast. Works great! No side effects and the arthritis pain, ulcers and rash of lupus are gone too. Maybe some people are really sensitive to it and need a very small dose.

Extreme nausea, bad diarrhea, fatigue, vivid dreams, very bad stomach cramping and bloating that would get worse by the evening.
