Catapres-tts-1 (clonidine) Side Effects, Uses Dosages

Side Effects for Catapres-tts-1 (clonidine)

Thought patch was working. But at 5th day had a hypertensive crisis. Blood pressure shot up to 208/109. Woke me from sleep with racing pulse and elevated bp. Tore off patch...now hoping bp returns to my high normal.

Works okay. Tried to bump up to 0.3 mgs, couldn't sleep due to horrible nightmares. Really dry mouth and eyes. Like not having to take a pill every day.

This med has caused severe sleep problems. REM sleep occurs at least 4 times a night, after which I am wide awake with problems going back to sleep. Daytimes, I am zombie-like, falling asleep whenever I am still. Dry mouth is a problem also.

Reddness, at the site, then discoloration for a long time afterwards.I take so many others I don't know what medicine may have caused what, except the awlful patch marks.

redness & itching under patch eventually progressed to generalized allergic reaction

My doc prescribed "Nasacort" spray to reduce the itching under the patch, which worked fairly well for about 1-1/2 years. Then the skin reaction got worse and the area stayed red even after patch was removed. Eventually I got a rash that spread from chest to back to arms & legs--entire body. It went away within 4 days after I stopped using the patch & switched to a different BP med.

Was an early step in trying to treat our son's ADHD symptoms. This one was so mild it didn't do much of anything. The positive was little risk of side effects and nothing too scary as far as side effects, but it just didn't do anything for ADHD. Increased the dose to the max and still no results. Have since moved on to the pure ADHD meds, rather than blood pressure meds with other uses.

Fatigue, loss of vitality, drive, ambition, and energy.

I have tried other medications for high blood pressure, but their side affects were completely intolerable. The Catapres does bring down my blood pressure down to where it should be... so it has given me that... but it has taken some quality of my life in return.

none I never knew it was there

I want to continue wearing the patch but I cant afford another month and my husband is on so much medication just to keep breathing on a fixed income its hard

Extreme fatigue and my night sweats were only delayed until 0330am.

CATAPRES-TTS-1 (CLONIDINE): This medication is used alone or with other medications to treat high blood pressure (hypertension). Lowering high blood pressure helps prevent strokes, heart attacks, and kidney problems. Clonidine belongs to a class of drugs (central alpha agonists) that act in the brain to lower blood pressure. It works by relaxing blood vessels so blood can flow more easily. (Sources: U.S. Centers for Medicare Services, FDA) Download our Free Resource Guide:

The gas is nasty as hell and I figure it has to do with Prilosec. I have to take it daily or my GERD returns with added punch and pain. My stool is not very solid either.

Have not had any of the heart rate side effects that I read other people have had. I do not drink Caffeine and maybe that helps, I have taken Claritin D for YEARS but just recently feel super drained and tired when I take this medication.

Bloating, upset stomach blurry vision skin color change, diarrhea, lightheaded.

Some mild dizziness, but unsure if it's related to this drug or chronic conditions (sinus/allergy/asthma)

I have been taking Lamictal for about 4 years now and this is the FIRST I've heard that my "brain fog" symptoms are Lamictal related. I share what others experience here: short-term memory funk,"tip of the brain/tongue" problems. Dyslexic. My speech is clumsy at times as well. This has been increasingly distressing because it's getting worse. so why haven't ANY of my psych docs made this association for me!!??? I have been worried that I have dementia or mini-strokes. I've slowly gained weight (~7lbs yr) since beginning this med. Since the "cute" tummy roll turned into a blob dripping over my waistband I've tried dieting. I limit to 1200 cal. a day (low fat) and not sedentary for a year!, yet the weight doesn't budge. I think Lamictal has all but shut down my thyroid. Symptoms of dry itchy skin/scalp, dry course hair/ hair loss, dry eyes, menstrual irregularities (I have a period every 10 - 21 days)weight gain / trouble losing weight, brain fog, decreased mood, decreased libido/ energy... are all related to low thyroid, seems many of us suffer these symptoms...I am beginning my taper off Lamictal today. I am grateful this site exists. Thanks for sharing.

I much preferred the Zoladex to Prostap but feel that perhaps neither are actually all they are cracked up to be!

My kid is suffering from IGF-1

I seem to get colds/bronchitus/asthma less than I did before, but I don't know if it is because of this drug, or because of the Allergy Shot Therapy I am on.

I began taking OTC when I was 14 and took it regularly up until I was 20. I had no problems with it during this period of time. I just started taking it again this month and have had horrible side effects. I am cranky all the time, bloated, my breats are swollen and tender and I have HORRIBLE bleeding. It's good to see other people are experiencing the same side effects to put my mind at ease.

None at all been taking it ever since it came out yrs ago.
