Ziagen (abacavir sulfate) Side Effects, Uses Dosages

Side Effects for Ziagen (abacavir sulfate)

I was on it for 3 years and found that it is extremely expensive to maintain along with availability issues (not as widely available as other drugs). I ended up swapping it out for AZT along with my existing 3TC and EFV HAART regimen. Still undetectable and wish I could get back all of the money I wasted on Ziagen.

MY doctor had switche dme from zerit to ziagen because of neuropathy adn muscle wasting, after 4 days my whole body itched like mad, had incredible diarrhea, mostly yellow mucous stuff, heart palpitations and dewagerously high blood pressure, i always run normal 110-120/60-70, fainting, shooting pains in my joints, swelling in joints, feet turning purple and ice cold.

This, like all hiv meds is HIGHLY toxic and ziagen comes with a dire warning about hypersensitivity reaction, which just now my doctor is admitting i was begining to have

ZIAGEN (ABACAVIR SULFATE): This drug is used with other HIV medications to help control HIV infection. It helps to decrease the amount of HIV in your body so your immune system can work better. This lowers your chance of getting HIV complications (such as new infections, cancer) and improves your quality of life. Abacavir belongs to a class of drugs known as nucleoside reverse transcriptase inhibitors-NRTI. Abacavir is not a cure for HIV infection. To decrease your risk of spreading HIV disease to others, do all of the following: (1) continue to take all HIV medications exactly as prescribed by your doctor, (2) always use an effective barrier method (latex or polyurethane condoms/dental dams) during all sexual activity, and (3) do not share personal items (such as needles/syringes, toothbrushes, and razors) that may have contacted blood or other body fluids. Consult your doctor or pharmacist for more details. (Sources: U.S. Centers for Medicare Services, FDA)

This medication has made me feel so sleepy during the day, as was directed by my doctor to take it before bed at night, I have only taken it twice, and both mornings I woke up late with the alarm clock blaring into my ears. I slept way too hard on this medication so far and have been extremely hungry and thirsty.

I'm stopping this as it does nothing. Garbage!!

if any doctor is trying to give you ANY anti-depression or ANY Psychiatric drugs, do your research!!! DO NOT TAKE any med until you have looked up what it does and the problems with it. SSRI's are addictive (your doctor will say there not) but these meds cause *SERIOUS* withdrawal symptoms, and any drug that gives you withdrawal is addicitive. ask questions!! its your RIGHT to know info about the drugs they want you to take. ALSO there is tons of infomation leading to severe brain damage from taking certian Psychiatric drugs! PLEASE DO YOUR RESEARCH! i would hate for anyone to have to go through the horrific withdrawal i am now.

1)Tingling feet and hands about an hour after dosage. Can feel like burning on back of hands and feet. Tingling travels up extremities a little. Annoying and usually tolerable but seems to be worsening. Possibly could be from 12.5MG Metoprolol taken in conjunction with Flecainide. 2)For about 2 months had terrible memory recall when first started higher 75MG dosage with Metoprolol. Getting better now. 3)Developed bradychardia as well but tolerated only one light headed episode. BPM as low as 38. Average in low to mid 40's.

Diarrhea, SEVERE MEMORY LOSS, loss of friends and family due to sleeping all the time, impaired ability while driving. Your life is basically over on this drug. This horrible drug numbs you. It's not just a benzo, it's a BENDZO. Distortion. Withdrawal is HELL. It took over three years to recover - you are a fool to take it. I have paid a very high price. I am highly educated and used to be active and involved. I was SO sedated that nothing mattered.. I took Klonopin as prescribed. When my ex-psychiatrist fell asleep while I was talking to him, I had to stop.

i have had trouble in the past with muscle pain with other meds

CRPS in legs/feet and back problems

No side affects from infusion. I have had a couple of outbreaks of hives in between infusions... they've occured about 5 weeks out from an infusion. There is no pattern of food or other unusual exposure to pin them on. They subside, (some not completely) and appear a couple months later in the same spots. Can't say they're related to the remicade, but other than one time 6 or more years ago, the hives are a new thing for me. Also I think it takes longer to recover from little bouts with whatever bug is going around.

Severe lower intestine problems after starting this antibiotic. A month later I am still having problems! Don’t risk your health with this antibiotic!

I need to currently come off of the effexor and am very scared at what other people are saying about withdrawal. I am currently at about 37.5mg and if anyone who has had success is weening off could possibly email me with their ways of getting through I would appreciate it.
