Crixivan (indinavir sulfate) Side Effects, Uses Dosages

Side Effects for Crixivan (indinavir sulfate)

Blocked kidneys (kidney stones), skin changes, hair loss on legs, ingrown toe-nails, nausea and diarrhoea

This early HIV drug was one of the most potent and effective at controlling the virus, but more recent drugs have much fewer side effects.

CRIXIVAN (INDINAVIR SULFATE): This drug is used with other HIV medications to help control HIV infection. It helps to decrease the amount of HIV in your body so your immune system can work better. This lowers your chance of getting HIV complications (such as new infections, cancer) and improves your quality of life. Indinavir belongs to a class of drugs known as protease inhibitors. It may be given with ritonavir, another protease inhibitor, to increase ("boost") the levels of indinavir. This helps indinavir work better. Indinavir is not a cure for HIV infection. To decrease your risk of spreading HIV disease to others, do all of the following: (1) continue to take all HIV medications exactly as prescribed by your doctor, (2) always use an effective barrier method (latex or polyurethane condoms/dental dams) during all sexual activity, and (3) do not share personal items (such as needles/syringes, toothbrushes, and razors) that may have contacted blood or other body fluids. Consult your doctor or pharmacist for more details. (Sources: U.S. Centers for Medicare Services, FDA)

Extreme joint pain in hands, feet & knees.

Just went back on the pill after 3 years, about 2 weeks ago. Noticed very painful headaches for a few days in the 2nd week (if you just lay down it goes away) but no other side effects that I can tell. So far my skin has cleared, I have maintained a stable weight and noticed my 1st period was shorter and lighter with no cramps, usually 5 days and it was barely 4 days!

I tried a couple other anti-depressants before Zoloft that either made me even more depressed or didn't help at all. It took a couple of weeks for me to realize much of a difference with Zoloft, but it has, without a doubt, saved my life. The only complaint I have is that I found myself eating more than usual which caused some weight gain, but none that can't be managed without increasing exercise and eating healthier. I had some fatigue when first starting the prescription, but I no longer notice it. Just make sure that you DO NOT go without Zoloft for more then a couple of days once you have been on it for awhile! The withdrawal is AWFUL! Due to various causes, I went a week without my prescription and had terrible vertigo, insomnia, nausea and irritability. Otherwise, great!

ER visit, possible gallbladder atta

I quit taking xanax for anxiety 2 yrs ago. That being said I haven't had any issues with anxiety ever since. Started taking augmentin and within days I started experiencing anxiety to the point that I could barely keep myself together. Mind racing, complete loss of control of thoughts as well as strange thoughts. Very scary and I would not recommend this drug to anyone w/anxiety issues. Thankfully I decided to look it up and found this is one of the most severe. BEWARE OF THIS DRUG

My son was hospitalized in the 4th grade and diagnosed OCD/Mood disorder. On risperdal and zoloft. Only side effect then was he wet the bed sometimes. He went off it and after about a year started having problems - bipolar like symptoms. Has been on it for about 10 days and it has helped him emotionally so much! What a difference. He says he cant get an erection and this will be a problem ( he's a teenager) if it doesnt resolve itself. He is only on .5mg per day.

I have had migraines with aura since I was 11. I am 44 now. I have tried every drug in the book and only Topamax has reduce the frequency and severity of the migraines. I would have 14 migraines a month without, and am down to 2-4 with the Topamax. I don't like the side effect of feeling stupid at times, but if I go off, I go right back to having tons of migraines, so I'm just going to wait it out until they finish developing the drug specifically for migraine sufferers that is in the works. Topamax has also reduced the pain, but has done nothing to get rid of my auras.

Seems like "overkill" to use this drug for a chronic but only mildly bothersome stomach issue which may or may not be diverticulitis. PS: Don't do this while on a beach vacation!

I could not function normally without this drug. The pain would be too immense, and would have me concentrating more on it then living life. It is an addictive drug to those with addictive personalities, so if that describes you...then proceed with caution if ever prescribed? To those of us in pain, it is called "dependence" NOT addiction...big difference there. Anyone taking this drug (and many others in the Opiate classes) over time WILL develop tolerance and dependence. It is NORMAL. The reason that this drug gets such a bad rap from the DEA and other US Governmental agencies is because they CONFUSE those terms. If they were to actually analyze data on patients who are taking the drug BECAUSE of pain, they would realize that those who take it for that reason ARE THE LEAST LIKELY TO ABUSE IT, AND FOLLOW THE DOSAGES AS PRESCRIBED. Those of you taking it just to get high? Just know that you are playing with fire, and when it is time to come down...your life will suck

A friend at work told me about the side effects recently and that was when I realized my daughter had the personality problems during that period. Her behavior is back to what it was.
