Side Effects for Atripla (efavirenz; emtricitabine; tenofovir disoproxil fumarate)

ATRIPLA (EFAVIRENZ; EMTRICITABINE; TENOFOVIR DISOPROXIL FUMARATE): This product contains 3 different medications: efavirenz, emtricitabine, and tenofovir. It is used alone or with other HIV medications to help control HIV infection. It helps to decrease the amount of HIV in your body so your immune system can work better. This lowers your chance of getting HIV complications (such as new infections, cancer) and improves your quality of life. Efavirenz belongs to a class of drugs known as non-nucleoside reverse transcriptase inhibitors (NNRTIs). Emtricitabine and tenofovir belong to a class of drugs known as nucleoside reverse transcriptase inhibitors (NRTIs). Efavirenz/emtricitabine/tenofovir is not a cure for HIV infection. To decrease your risk of spreading HIV disease to others, do all of the following: (1) continue to take all HIV medications exactly as prescribed by your doctor, (2) always use an effective barrier method (latex or polyurethane condoms/dental dams) during all sexual activity, and (3) do not share personal items (such as needles/syringes, toothbrushes, and razors) that may have contacted blood or other body fluids. Consult your doctor or pharmacist for more details. (Sources: U.S. Centers for Medicare Services, FDA)

Like many of you I thought it a blessing 3 yrs ago when my physician gave me the injections to try since nothing else had helped and I THOUGHT it was a God send, but found out on the 5th of Sept very differently when I was admitted with a heart attack. After the Doc. performed an angiogram, he came back to tell me that my vascular system is very clean and that I have no blockages. That my heart muscle suffered damage due to the chemicals in Imitrex which is a known side affect. After leaving the hospital another woman got in touch with me that suffered a stroke. I know first hand how painful migraines are and I know that the tendency when reading "side effects" is "it will never happen to me". Well, I just want you all to know that it did.

Only side effects are swollen ankles and stiff lower legs ( arthritis like) to the point that I have trouble moving after being in any sitting position and begin to walk. When walking notice some stumbling and stiffness in writing.

getting ready to take my 2nd shot; had endo for 13 years so far; tried two laporoscopies and one baby; started lupron because of severe, contraction-like pain during bowel and bladder movements; first two weeks rough, but feeling better except for really tired and eating everything in sight (drugs or stress i don't know yet); hoping lupron helps...

food, envirnomental allergies, hive

menopause-night sweats & hot flush

The usual redness and itching at injection sites with some bruising.

I get migraines when I swim that are so bad I end up on the side of the pool almost in tears. My doctor and I felt that it was a sinus problem so she put me on Allegra and Nasonex. The first swim after starting the meds, I had only a slight/barely there headache. After that, I have had NONE!

It helped but the drowsiness often outweighs the benefits

It's a good insensitive to eat a low fat diet or pay the consequence. I can deal with that. I hope I can drop the weight. I weigh in on Monday. I will let you know.

Maybe dry mouth, but that's about it.
