really no side effects, the drug is supposed to prevent UTI's....I'm still getting them, just not as frequently
the pills are HUGE and taste awful, very bitter
the pills are huge and very hard to swallow, also the coating on them is very bitter tasting. I'm not sure if this drug has worked or not, I don't feel any different.
UREX (METHENAMINE HIPPURATE): Methenamine is used to prevent or control returning urinary tract infections caused by certain bacteria. It is not used to treat an active infection. Other antibiotics must be used first to treat and cure the infection. Methenamine is an antibiotic that stops the growth of bacteria in urine. This medication also contains an ingredient that helps to make the urine acidic. When the urine is acidic, methenamine turns into formaldehyde to kill the bacteria. This antibiotic is effective only against bacterial infections in the urinary tract. It will not work for other types of bacterial infections (such as in the blood) or for viral infections (such as the common cold or flu). i get blood tests every 4 months, the doc says they come out fine, but he always asks me to retake the creatine test (kidneys, i think, not related to tricor). i've decided to skip my tricor for a month and see if I get any relief, i'll let you know
Finally saw a new Kaiser Doctor and she told me she has seen this toxic effect from Prilosec before and that it would take 4-6 weeks to get out of my system and the side effects to go away...I am nearly at that 4 week marker and I am happy to say today I had my first normal day,,got my love of life back, my focus, as I told one man "I got my mojo back!" So hang in there and when you turn a corner let others know. this is one quiet travesty and we suffer in silence because no one understands. So make a big noise and we can help alot of other people. This drug is neurotoxic to the brains dopamine neurons. Type in "amphetamine neurotoxicity", "amphetamine and parkinsons risk" or "dopaminergic dysfunction in dextroamphetamine users" and you will see what I'm talking about.
