Side Effects for Indocin (indomethacin)

INDOCIN (INDOMETHACIN): Indomethacin is used to relieve pain, swelling, and joint stiffness caused by arthritis, bursitis, and tendonitis. Reducing these symptoms helps you do more of your normal daily activities. The sustained release capsule does not relieve pain quickly. Therefore, do not use it for sudden gout attacks. This medication is known as a nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID). If you are treating a chronic condition such as arthritis, ask your doctor about non-drug treatments and/or using other medications to treat your pain. See also Warning section. I am not sure if I am allergic or not, but I do have some symptoms that I am curious about. I haven't been taking it regularly as instructed, because ever since the second day on it, I have had these symptom. Although it cleared up my UTI right away, it made me feel terrible. Doctor never mentioned any of these symptoms, nor did they say to stop taking it b/c of how I felt, only told me not to workout on it.

MS-related muscle spasms & bipolar

worse anxiety, loss of compassion, loss of memory permanently, inability to tell right from wrong, mania, insomnia, restless legs, OCD, could not sit still.

My pain doc added this on to my oxycodone/soma/celebrex/flector patch cocktail because my pain was still so bad i couldn't sleep, even with a scrip sleep aid. 1st few weeks, all i did was sleep, but then i adjusted to it. I quit it cold-turkey after ~3 months. No side effects of quitting it, to my (and my doctor's) surprise! I now take it infrequently for really bad days. I have finally gotten some significant relief thru traction treatment. I've tried every other treatment out there, short of surgery (Im not a 'surgical patient'). Kadian definitely helped me thru some rough times.

abdominal cramping/mild pain, loose stools. some anxiety. i take this 2 days a week.

Went off because it stopped working. I got brain zaps, felt tired and unhappy.

This drug made me feel a little loopy but very hyper and talkative. Apparently no one else has had this reaction.

The only up-side is not having to worry about missing a pill etc. Been on it for about 2 years but am coming off it this month to go back on the pill.

Sudden onset of sedation within 2-3 hours and highly sedated for 12 hours

It worked for the first 8 weeks. After that things regressed. I thought I was having another flare up. Did my research and found the drug to have too many side effects. There is lactose in this as well, which I cannot tolerate (most who have an IBD can't!) and I feel contributed to my digestive problems. I've been off of Asacol HD for only a few days now and haven't had any bloating and sudden urges. I'm still bleeding but will seek other treatments for this.
