Tambocor (flecainide acetate) Side Effects, Uses Dosages

Side Effects for Tambocor (flecainide acetate)

Here, constipation, tinnitus, light headed

Instantly had breathing issues. Stomach pain and gerd, hemorhhoids

The ER dr told me not to take this and just do the cardioversion for afib. I didnt listen and took 1 dose of 300 mg of this bad drug. It did not stop my afib. It did however cause instant breathing issues that lasted about 4 months. It also completely ruined my gut and caused stomach pain, hemorhhoids, mitochondrial damage, gerd, throat ulcer and most likely worsened a possible hiatal hernia. I should have listened to the ER Doctor on this. Never again. It didnt work for my afib.

Depression, mood swings, confusion

I would not suggest this med. I mean it does work. Howeger. When I noticed that I was always forgetting things more than I always did and I was always confused and cold cold cold all the time. like three blankets and wearing gloves in thw house just to he warm, ( I live in pa) winters suck. Also I have a history of anxiety and depression but a month into the med I was never so depressed before in my life. Like not showering for a week. Not leaving the house except for work. Crying all night long. That kind of depression, I read online that these are rare side effects of the drug so I called rhe doc and he said he never heard of that. So I just figured I was just having a rough rough winter and then 2 days before Christmas I really almost killed myself while my 10 yr old was sleeping next to me. I wqs just in such diapair and I had no idea why. Spring came and with that my happiness slowly crept back but I still flipped out all the time and still kinda hated life but with a smile, and now, two weeks ago, I just kinda stopped taking my tambocor, now I know that is not good but I was so damn forgetful, a whole yrs script and I had only gotten it filled 6 times, I was to be taking it twice a day and for the life of me, I could never rememver rhe am dose. And wouldn't u know it. I am slowly becoming me again. happy and fun and wanting to be with people again. And cracking jokes with my significant other, he needs a medal for staying with me. don't listen to ur doctor if u fee

I'm on flecainide. I have ringing in my ears all the time. I feel my heart beats fast and sometimes pounds. Shaky and tired.

I no longer have the palpitations. Maybe only a few here and there but I feel my heart beating fast and sometimes pounding. Especially at night. That's when I feel this the most. Wakes me up and toss and turn many nights. Ringing in my ears is all the time. Can't stand it and I get this quivering feeling pretty much daily every so often. All in all I'm not sure whether to just deal with this or call my cardiologist. My heart beating fast concerns me but as far as palpitations, they are gone.

shaking hands, dizziness blurred vision

I've experienced ringing in the ears, strange muscle pain in legs, some cramping, extreme tiredness

Hava had no episodes with heart but wonder if drug is worth the side effects

I had no side effects taking tambocor, but when I took the generic had bad side effects from head feeling foggy, anxiety, pounding pulse, and the strongest afib episode to date

I was put on Tambocor back in the early 1990's for arrhythmias.Couldnt afford it so I stopped taking it.Never had any arrhythmias while taking it.Fast forward to present, wore an event monitor for 30 days, found I haveparoxysmal afib.Told my cardiologist I use to take tambocor and wouldnt mind taking it again. So I went to the hospital to be observed for the first 5 doses, still had a few spits and sputters of afib.Came home Sunday and didgood until Wednesday afternoon I had a badafib episode like none before. Then I started looking how others complained about the generic version.Well I quit taking it until I get back in.Going to go with the ablation and non generic tambocor

Spaced out feeling, nervousness, tinnitus and aching leg muscles

Have only been on this drug (Tambocor) for 14 days and it has helped with controlling my afib, but with a cost of side effects that annoy the hell out of me and some of them may not go away with continued use. This drug can have an ototoxic affect on hearing and with me it has. (Actually if you look up ototoxic drugs and look at the list it may surprise.) My spaced out feeling emerged about 4 days after starting it and is probably my biggest annoyance, but now after 13 days the pains in my leg muscles is also very hard to accept. Local doctors don't believe these side effects are related to the drug, but it is the only new one I have been put on, so what the ????

Tight chest, dizzy, increase in urination, difficult to form constructive sentences, rapid heart rate, shortness of breath when walking

I had my first ablation 12 years ago and prior to that took beta blockers. After the first ablation no tablets ! I still had AF but my cardiologist refused to accept the ablation did not work so I had to live with it. Just found a new German cardiologist and had 2 ablations... He has put me on this drug for 3 months post ablation to control any post Ablstion AF during the scaring period... Not convinced about the drug, maybe my body is not used to taking heart drugs so that maybe why my side effects are so significant.

About 2 years ago I was diagnosed with Meniere's disease, and as doctors often see no distinction between the actual disease and the SYMPTOMS of the disease, I have no way of knowing if my tinnitus is related to the drug or not.

This has definitely helped. I started throwing my first PVCs in my teens, and as I got older they increased. I'm sure my bout with chemo at the age of 42 didn't help. When I'm tired or take in too many stimulates, I will experience the arrhythmia, but unlike NOT taking the drug, they last a few seconds before correcting. My Cardiologist feels this drug is a chemical version of ablation, and since I also have a right atrium blood clot (from the chemo port I learned later I may have never needed), not physically touching the heart is advised, even though the clot was there for 18 years before a cardiac scan for the Afib found it. Fortunately the clot is well seated, away from any valves, and actually seems to be calcifying. I'm fortunate my dosage is low, so if need be, I can have it increased should the need arise. I throw a few from time to time, but my doctor said this is to be expected. Also recently I learned of a few other little health problems that may be adding to the Afib thing, so all and all I'm satisfied with the drug's performance.

Very tired, blurred vision, weight gain.

I've had two previous ablations 3 1/2 years ago. I was fine without a fib until my family doctor increased my antidepressant, Celexa to 60 mg a day, which is contraindicated for those with a hx of a fib. I'm currently symptomatic for serve real hours before and after each dose. I will gladly have another ablation to avoid meds the rest of my life!

Moderate fatigue - just means I gotta get to bed earlier and don't do too many late nights.I don't know if this is related, but my hair seems to be growing faster than ever - now every two weeks I buzz cut it myself with #4 clippers

Two years ago, had AF episodes every day, (first thing in morning and arvo/evening)I could work hard/physical all day, no problem, as soon as I stopped for lunch or got home, and especially if I layed down, then my heart would go NUTS.Did every heart test there is, and they basically said I have a strong healthy heart with an attitude problemAfter trying other beta blockers with no positive or negative difference, started 200mg daily flecanide/tambocor, then up to 350mg daily, stopped having afib episodes. After a while, back to 200mg and have been on that ever since.FOR ME flecanide/tambocor has had virtually no side effects, and has worked perfectly

little appetite first 2 months. Hair loss and eyelash loss, settled down after approx. 12 months

taken to A&E with fast AF 230bts/min giver Adenosine twice which did not work, this was one of the worst experiences of my life, felt like I was dying. Given Tambacor IV, after 10-20 minutes back in normal sinus rhythm, was then on 50mg twice daily, I felt fine, much better so cut down to 50mg once daily, ended up in A&E again, Tambocor given IV and ok again after 10 minutes, am feeling good but going for an ablation soon so hopefully wont have to take meds for rest of my life.

Minimal compared to the bad A FIB I was having lasting all night sometimes. This drug is a God-send. I am hoping to back off the heavy dosage of Toprol XL which will help with the tiredness issue.

A loss of energy, which was taken in conjuntion with other meds (from time to time). Have worked through that with exercise regime.

Ablation in 2007 helped and two ablations (left and right side) this year as heart tissue grew back causing severe palpatations over a month. Currently AFib free and without any occurance in the past 4 months, might be taken off Tambocor all together. My heart goes out to all fellow suferers.

Controlled my AF quite well till now. No real side effects apart from cold hands/feet when I sit for a while in an upright posture...(funny, I'm ok when laying like a lizard in front of TV)!But lately, I'm getting short bursts (2 -3 hour stints) of afib back. Not the incredible thumping that used to occur for 24-48 hours, just an elevated rate (120bpm) that is faint and misses a lot. But if I take an extra tablet, this stops within an hour.Going to see what the doc thinks about having 3 tabs a day, or maybe he'll say it's time to visit the electro-cardio specialist.....

Blurred vision, ED, Rapid pulse rate 100 bpm/130bpm but am in sinus rhythm.

Will see Doc tomorrow to re-evaluate meds. I feel Docs should follow protocols and hospitalize AFib patients three days for observation when new meds are prescibed.

So far none, besides maybe cold feet, hands.

Had AF 4 times now. Two corrected with electrical cardioversion, the third one in hospital with intravenous flecainide and the forth one by just taking an extra cap Tambocor 100mg.Works great for me, low HR of 45bpm, 5 lower than prior to usage of Tambocor. Running long distance whole/ half marathon with max HR <140bpm.Interested hearing other experience of usage in combination with running etc.

TAMBOCOR (FLECAINIDE ACETATE): This medication is used to treat certain types of serious (possibly fatal) irregular heartbeat (such as persistent ventricular tachycardia and paroxysmal supraventricular tachycardia). It is used to restore normal heart rhythm and maintain a regular, steady heartbeat. It is also used to prevent certain types of irregular heartbeat from returning (such as atrial fibrillation). Flecainide is known as an anti-arrhythmic drug. It works by blocking certain electrical signals in the heart that can cause an irregular heartbeat. Treating an irregular heartbeat can decrease the risk for blood clots, and this effect can reduce your risk of heart attack or stroke. Older adults should discuss the risks and benefits of this medication with their doctor or pharmacist, as well as other effective and possibly safer treatments. Bloated horribly, gained 13 pounds in one month, gas, helped the burning pain but not worth the side effects

schizophrenia/psychotic episode

Within hours of taking this medicine on a saturday my upper lip swelled up like I got punched in the mouth, it turned bright red with a tint of purple. I was to take the second pill on monday. I took it knowing I probably shouldnt and on tuesday I woke up with ulcers or blisters in mt cheeks, under my tongue on my throat and a gross ulcer or blister on my upper lip. I am in so much pain, I thought I had some kind of disease or cancer but I remembered when I took this a few months back my lip got swollen with a blister on top. And after hearing many other women getting painful ulcers all over the mouth and lips I am sure it is this medicine. This stuff is bad news. And I dont get it I took this stuff several times before the past 2 times and never had any problems. I just wish these painful ulcers would go away im so miserable :(

Severe memory loss, 3 times I was driving down the road and had no clue where I was, who I was or where I was going. And I had my 6 kids in the van with me. Very Scary! I still have memory problems today.Other problem, tingly scalp, nausea, cramping, hot flashes, increased heart rate and blood pressure. I had really bad mood swings, went off on my children for no reason. I felt jittery, had my 1 and only ever panic attack on this medicine.

Worked for first couple of days and then felt extremely tired and nothing worked. All I wanted to do is sleep. Could not function. Tried Nuvigil and the same, so it's caffiene for now.

birth control during breastfeeding

Weight gain, memory loss (technical words, names), depression

I have taken Flagyl numerous times in the past for treatment of Crohn's disease (approx. 7 days at a time) with only mild nausea and darkened urine. Believe the extreme side effects this time are related to the high doses and long-duration I have had to take the Flagyl throughout hospitalization, surgery, and at home. Was not educated on serious potential side effects. Thought I was going crazy until reading detailed side effect information online today. Only had 2 more days on Flagyl so going to stop taking immediately in hopes that I begin to feel more myself again very soon.

Still have high blood pressure and rapid heart beat. Dizzy all day and severe headaches. I already have migraines but now have one every day. I also take a small dose of imetrex. Chest pain and can't get out of bed. Feel like I need to go to er everyday.

Experienced headaches, nausea, and slight dizziness in the beginning.
