Procardia xl (nifedipine) Side Effects, Uses Dosages

Side Effects for Procardia xl (nifedipine)

Anxiety and panic attacks, worry, can't remember some things, jittery can't relax, and insomnia.

I started taking this medication when I had a high blood pressure reading while pregnant. I am supposed to take 60mg before breakfast and 30 at bedtime. Imagine having side effects that I have listed and being pregnant, not good. I want to get off this medication because now I'm am constantly worrying and scared to go to the doctor, or pretty much to go about my day for that matter. I'm glad I found this site because it feels like I'm the only one suffering.

Extreme Anxiety, blurred vision, occasional stabbing pain in the back of my head, extremely shaky, sweaty feet, heavy feeling all over. Faster heart rate, slight chest pains in my sternum.

I absolutely hate this medicine. Yes it keeps my blood pressures near normal but I have no idea how anyone can function on this medication. I have zero quality of life since taking this medication. I can’t control living like this. It's not worth taking.

Panic attacks lt. Headed sleepless nights

It works for awhile then it backfire on you.

I started taking this for bp spikes of 220/100. I actually bite the capsule to allow the juice to get on my tongue and it is the ONLY medication that alleviates the spike. If u have unexplained spikes like I do I highly recommend procardia. It is the ONLY thing thats brought mine down.

High blood pressure/preeclampsia

The worst medication on the planet. I started this medicine right before I got pregnant. At first, the anxiety, loss of appetite and palpitations started but then I found out I was pregnant so they kept me on it. I was diagnosed with ppa/ppd but was not on medication but doing therapy then I suddenly stopped thus meds and I started to feel better but then my bo went back up and I continued to the meds, this time, the panic attacks, anxiety loss of appetite, insomnia, feel like I'm dying and ended up in the ER, I just decided to goggle and I'm shocked I'm not the only one going through this ordeal. I took a dose this morning before reading the reviews, I will never take another pill of this medicine for the rest of my life. This medicine should be pulled out of the market, please stay away, it's a dangerous drug.

Chest pain, acid reflux, arm and leg cramps, headaches, anxious feeling, severe shortness of breath, fast heart rate and palpitations. This medicine had me feeling like I was having a heart attack or maybe a blood clot but everything always came out normal in the ED( I went so many times I lost count).

I would not recommend this medication past two weeks or so. I did not realize it was the medicine causing all of that until I did my research on it. After stopping it some symptoms went away after one day but still experienced other symptoms for some time after. I am still going through them for I just stopped the medicine 5 days ago before this post

Extreme anxiety and panic attacks, tingling/numb feeling in hands and arms, occasionally legs and feet; swelling in hands and feet, headaches (not helped by meds), cannot relax- constant tension- clenching of jaw, knots in neck; high resting heart rate, chest pains, fatigue, dizziness when standing too quickly.

If you can, try other medications. I just got removed due to an improvement in my meds, but after two trips to the ER due to different side effects, I asked for a new med if I have to go back on them.

Extreme headache that Tylenol barely touches. Hot, red feet that somewhat get swollen. Giddiness. Racing heart sometimes. Ringing in ears occasionally. It does help stabilize my blood pressure, though.

The first 6 months no side effects but then I started experiencing redness and tingling in my legs. If i would take the pill late I would get a headache. Around 16 months of use out of no where I started experiencing extreme anxiety. After a week of this I researched and realized this was likely a side effect and called my doctor to be taken off of it.

Anxiety, neck tightness, tingly sensation through left arm, chest and neck; insomnia and trouble sleeping.

Swings in blood pressure. Took me forever to figure this out. High anxiety. Warm flushing tingling in face ears and feet. Anxiety is so high I am close to making poor decisions and or mentally paralyzed. I am going to see another doctor. It's scary I've made it this long.

Has any one else been diagnosed with the gerd while taking this medication. Noticed when I forget to take medication, my acid reflux is very mild. Wanted to know if anyone else has experience this.

Anxiety. Tiredness. Short tempered. Irritated. Slight appetite decrease. Shortness of breath .

Post partum high blood pressure

Made me irrationally angry and very depressed. Thought it was ppd starting, but the feelings started shortly after I started the drug and stopped a few days after stopping taking it. Also caused the worst headaches of my life. It did lower BP a bit but being suicidal all the time is not a good tradeoff.

HeadacheExtreme fatiguePounding heartConstipationSwelling in hands and lower legs and feetTrouble breathingInsomniaExtreme lower back painExtreme heartburnThroat swellingOverall feeling of impending doom

I am extremely angry at my new doctor for prescribing this medication to me without warning me about the horrible side effects that could occur. Suffice it to say that I am changing doctors. Just because he has never been on this medication does not mean that he shouldn’t disclose the potential side effects, which are numerous, and that I’ve experienced over the past 3 days. I feel extremely sorry for people who have these side effects and haven’t attributed them to the medication. I agree with others that this drug should be taken off the market. (And if you look it up, these are COMMON side effects. Not rare. That’s ridiculous.

This drug did a great job bringing my blood pressures down to good levels after preeclampsia. I went into the ER with 200/90 and after management in the hospital was discharged with 140s/90-80s. I am now 5 weeks out and get 110/60-70s consistently. I’ve coincidentally been diagnosed with postpartum panic disorder, but after reading other reviews of this drug I am now very curious if my VERY intense anxiety and occasional panic attacks are not postpartum at all but rather a side effect...

Nervousness, anxiety, feeling like something bad was going to happen to me, loss of appetite potentially due to the anxiety, palpitations all day long.

About 5 days after starting this medication I felt nervous as a passenger in a car. The next day I had a full blown panic attack that sent me to the er. I attributed it to me not handling being on bp meds. Well everyday after that I would have anxiety attacks every afternoon and then I would feel better. Then slowly every morning and afternoon and night. I called me doc to see if I could stop the medications and the first day off idk if i had withdrawal symptoms but I had the worst palpitations that sent me back to the er 10 days after the first attack. I've been off the meds about 9 days now and in slowly feel I am getting better each day. I was about to go on anti anxeity/depression medication bc docs were telling me that these arent side effects, even though I have no history of panic attacks. I am sorry for other people having to go through this but after reading some comments, am happy I wasnt the only one. This drug is horrible!

Fluttering heart, extreme dizziness, fatigue, eye floaters, stabbing pain in head, stabbing sensation in chest

Works to control BP but might go too low.

Intense anxiety and panic attacks, chest tightness/heaviness/reflux, palpitations, nervousness, chest congestion, low energy and shortness of breath some days. Also had nausea, lack of appetite, and vomiting the first couple of days.

Did a decent job managing BP but had a lot of side effects

PROCARDIA XL (NIFEDIPINE): Nifedipine is used alone or in combination with other drugs to treat high blood pressure (hypertension). Lowering high blood pressure helps prevent strokes, heart attacks, and kidney problems. This medication is also used for certain types of chest pain (angina). It may help increase your ability to exercise and decrease the frequency of chest pain attacks. It should not be used to treat chest pain when it occurs. Use other medications (e.g., sublingual nitroglycerin) to relieve attacks of chest pain as directed by your doctor. Consult your doctor or pharmacist for more details. This medication is known as a calcium channel blocker. It works by relaxing and widening blood vessels so blood can flow more easily. Severe stomach ache for 2 days.

half of thyroid removed a year ago

I get bad stomach cramps from this. I am only taking a low dose of 100mg. I start to forget stuff sometimes. No weight gain or hair loss, thank god. It did stop my migraines when i took it daily but if i missed 2 days i get them back. Its as if my body goes through withdrawel or something. But my main concern is the liver disease that you may get from taking this medicine and the bad stomach pains i get. other then that it's ok. no more migraines.
